Deccan Gymkhana is an area in Pune city named for the Deccan Gymkhana Sports Club, which lies in the centre of the city. This famous club was started in October 1906 by a few forward thinking civic-minded citizens, the chief founder being Mr. Balkrishna Narayan Bhajekar . The area has lots of cafes, entertainment areas, restaurants, shopping malls and shops and is one of the major areas of Pune. Important roads like Karve Road, Jangli Maharaj Road and Fergusson College Road originate in this area. This area is well linked to the different areas of Pune by PMPML buses. This area is close to the Pune Municipal Corporation. This area has Sambhaji Park, one of the famous parks in the city. Tilak Road serves as a link between Swargate and Deccan Gymkhana, while the Laxmi Road links this area to Pune Cantonment. This area also has the famous Deccan Gymkhana Sports Club and the PYC Hindu Gymkhana. There is famous Temple of Lord Hanuman, Balbheem Temple in the area. The area is surrounded with greenery.
Entertainment & Food
Entertainment areas like the Balgandharva drama theater, Alka Cinema hall and the City Pride Multiplex (opposite to Deccan Gymkhana PMPML depot) are situated in this area. Restaurants like KFC, McDonald's and Pizza Hut on Jangli Maharaj road Vaishali and Rupali on Fergusson College road are located in this area. The famous Irani cafe, "Cafe Good Luck" was established here in 1935, on the Fergusson College Road.[1]

Deccan Gymkhana is a major halt on several routes of PMPML-Malwadi have there halt at Deccan Gymkhana. Buses from Gokhle Nagar and Janwadi traveling to Shanipar and Swargate pass via Deccan Gymkhana. Buses originating from Pune Railway Station and Shivajinagar to Karve Nagar, Bharti Vidyapeet and Dhankawadi pass from Deccan Gymkhana. High bus frequency routea re of buses traveling from Pune Municipal Corporation to Kondhwa gate, Kothrud and Warje-Malwadi. Deccan Gymkhana also has PMPML depot. Buses originate from here to Dapodi, Pimple Nilakh, DP road (Aundh), Vidyanagar and few other areas. Other route passing through Deccan Corner are from Kothrud to Hadapsar, Pune Railway Station, Salunkhe Vihar and Kondwa Budrukh. Buses from Market Yard to Paud, Gotawade and few villages near Pune have their halt at Deccan Corner. Buses from Hadapsar and Pune Railway Station to Warje-Malwadi, Karvenagar and Kothrud bus stand. Other routes are Dhanori to Swargate (Via Deccan Gymkhana), Pune Municipal Corporation to Hadapsar (Via Deccan Gymkhana), NDA Gate to Pune Railway Station and from Upper Indira Nagar to Kothrud and Karve Nagar (Via Deccan Corner), from Karve Nagar to Sahakar Nagar (Via Deccan Corner) and Warje-Malwadi to Market Yard (via Deccan Corner).

Deccan Gymkhana Sports Club
Deccan Gymkhana Sports Club is a sports club situated in central Pune , after which the surrounding area is named. It was established on 5 October 1906 , the chief founder being Mr. Balkrishna Narayan Bhajekar. The membership stood at 16 in 1908 and is at present almost 6000 . It has basketball and volleyball courts and a cricket ground along with one gymnasium hall. It also has facilities for swimming, table tennis, billiards, cards and 11 tennis courts. It has one main clubhouse.
History
This sports club has hosted Davis Cup matches. This was also the host of MPL (Maharashtra Premier League) cricket matches. This club also host the NECC ITF Women's Tennis Championship 2009 from 16 November 2009 to 22 November 2009.
