"Poor Tom"
Song

"Poor Tom" is a song by English rock group Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page composed it in 1970 while staying at Bron-Yr-Aur, a small cottage in Wales.[1][2] It was recorded at Olympic Studios on 5 June 1970.

The song did not appear on the Led Zeppelin III album, but was eventually included on Coda. The album was produced by Page at his newly acquired Sol Studios and released in 1982 two years after the death of John Bonham.[2] The guitar tuning for the song is an open-C6 chord (C-A-C-G-C-E).[2] The song was never performed live at Led Zeppelin concerts.[2]

Reception

In a contemporary review of Coda, Kurt Loder of Rolling Stone thought "Poor Tom" wasn't "completely successful at mating an acoustic-guitar turn with an insistent drum tattoo, but it does demonstrate Page's links to the Bert Jansch-John Renbourn school of urbane folk picking."[3]
