Fundidora Park
Fundidora Park is a public park located east Monterrey, Mexico, inside the former Monterrey Foundry real estate. The park has an area of 120 hectares.
The Monterrey Foundry (Monterrey Steel Foundry Company) operated from 1900 until its bankruptcy in 1986. 2 years later, after having been legally declared financially insolvent, the "Fideicomiso Fundidora" (Fundidora Escrow) was installed to administrate the Park.
The park contains several buildings from the old Foundry making the park a famous Archeological Industrial Site in Mexico. The park also contains extensive walking tracks, an artificial lake, playgrounds for children and a 2.104 mile permanent road course which is very popular with joggers, bicyclists and inline skaters.
Fundidora Park also includes a CINTERMEX which is a convention center, a hotel, a museum, Sesame Street Park, an arena, an auditorium, Cineteca Nuevo Leon, and other smaller buildings and cultural venues.
Events
Every year, since 2001, the park has held the Champ Car World Series Grand Prix of Monterrey.
Fundidora Park has been the venue of UN and OEA summits.
On February 26, 2006, the Fundidora Park raceway hosted the A1 Grand Prix racing series.
In 2007 the park will be the center of the 2007 Universal Forum of Cultures. For this event an area of 30 hectares will be join to the 120 original hectares, and will be joint to Macroplaza by an artificial river called "Paseo Santa Lucia"
