Christopher Lloyd (born April 30 1982), better known as Lloyd Banks, is an American rapper and is a member of the popular hip-hop group G-Unit. Banks is of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent.

Biography

Born in New Carrollton, Maryland,[1] to a Puerto Rican mother and a Haitian father, Banks moved to the New York City neighborhood of South Jamaica, Queens at age 1. With his father in and out of the prison system, Banks' mother was left to raise him. Dropping out of high school before his 16th birthday, Lloyd began performing his rhymes on street corners, where he gained local fame and appeared on several mixtapes. Together with two other local aspiring artists, Tony Yayo and 50 Cent, G-Unit was created. Banks would later sign a record deal with the label after it was established as a subsidiary of Interscope Records.

G-Unit

After the creation of G-Unit, Banks went on to have a very strong presence on mixtapes. He was named the 2003 Mixtape Artist of the Year, and had released a number of tapes, mainly with DJ and producer DJ Whoo Kid. His releases include Mo Money In The Bank Parts 1, 2, 3 and 4. Banks was also featured on 50 Cent's multi-platinum success Get Rich or Die Tryin' (along side band members 50 cent, Young Buck, and Tony Yayo), and appeared on G-Unit release, Beg For Mercy, both in 2003. Right now, Banks has released Mo Money In The Bank 4 and is working on a mixtape with Eminem, both with beats by DJ Whoo Kid. Also confirmed that the well anticipated diss track towards Rappers The Game, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Sheek Louch, J Hood & Styles P labeled Death Wish will be on the mixtape.

Music

In November 2003, G-Unit released their first group album titled, Beg For Mercy. Lloyd Banks was joined by 50 Cent and Young Buck on the album, and also had a solo performance with the song, "Smile". His solo debut for G Unit/Interscope Records, The Hunger for More, was released in June 2004. The album included the hit singles "On Fire", "I'm So Fly", and "Karma". The Hunger for More sold over 400,000 copies in its first week, putting him behind millionaire rap mogul 50 Cent and Compton rapper The Game for most sold in the opening week in G-Unit.

In the fall of 2005, an album titled, The Big Withdraw was leaked on the internet and featured an extensive collection of songs; 23 recordings total. All the tracks were exclusive and gave fans a mixtape quality array of Banks raps. It was revealed that some material recorded after "The Hunger For More" was leaked and included on the The Big Withdraw mixtape.[1]

He is scheduled to release his second LP on October 10, 2006, titled Rotten Apple.[2]
