IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 (also called IL-2: 1946) is a 2006 compilation release of the Combat flight simulation game IL-2 Sturmovik. Created by a Russian games developer 1C:Maddox Games and published by Ubisoft. IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 takes place during World War II. Although technically an expansion of IL-2 Sturmovik, it comes with all of the updates and expansions of the base game before it, up to version 4.07. The License has now expired for IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946.

Current expansion & development

Team Daidalos have been developers for IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 expansions since patch 4.10. The expansions created add new World War II aircraft, prototype aircraft, post-war aircraft, new maps and new campaigns. Team Daidalos continue the official development of IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946.

There are various modding teams & individuals who continue to further the development of IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946, e.g. The Special Aircraft Service.


Early development

All Aircraft Arcade or also known as AAA was the primary Website & Forum for IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 3rd party development until its closure in 2010. The original All Aircraft Arcade website (allaircraftarcade.com) is now closed. Snapshots for the closed website can be found at https://archive.org/web/ the last being April 7, 2010.

Reception

The game was met with positive reception upon release. Review aggregator Metacritic gave IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 a score of 86 out of 100,[2] while another review aggregator, GameRankings, gave it 85.38%.[1]
