Early life and education

Ross grew up in Washington, D.C..[1] He attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston where he earned a degree in songwriting.[2][3]

Career

After graduating from Berklee, Ross moved to Atlanta to pursue a career in songwriting. He worked with artists like Usher, Jamie Foxx, Akon, Dave Hollister, Johnny Gill, SWV, and others. His own song, "Never Said," was featured alongside BJ the Chicago Kid, Ne-Yo, Chrisette Michele, and others on the 2012 Motown Music Sampler.[2][3][4] In 2013, he co-wrote "Touchin, Lovin" by Trey Songz featuring Nicki Minaj which would go on to be certified Platinum and reach #43 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.[5][6] Also in 2013, Ross performed at The BET Honors and the BET Music Matters showcase.[7]

In 2014, Ross opened for Maxwell on his "Summer Solstice" tour and performed at the Essence Music Festival.[7][8] In September of that year, he released his first major label EP on Motown Records, Dialogue in the Grey, which had features from Ne-Yo and T.I..[7][9][10] One song from the EP, "This Is My Wish," would go on to peak at #16 on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart.[11] It was also used in holiday-themed commercials for Glade air fresheners.[1][9][12] Ross also toured with Ne-Yo on his "One Night Only" tour in the fall of 2014.[8][13] Another song off of Dialogue in the Grey, "Dream," was remixed by Chaz French in the summer of 2015.[14]

In early 2016, Ross' single, "Be Great" was featured on an episode of Grey's Anatomy.[9] He also covered Outkast's song, "Prototype".[14] In December 2016, Ross released another EP entitled, Long Song Away, which featured "Be Great" and a remix of the song with BJ the Chicago Kid. It also featured the titular track, "Long Song Away," which would go on to peak at #1 on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart.[1][13][15] Prior to the release of the EP, Ross performed on an episode of the TV One series, Lexus Verses and Flow.[13]

Beginning in March 2017, Ross opened for Ro James on his "XIX" tour.[2] On March 24, 2017, he released his debut studio album on Motown Records entitled, The Awakening.[16][17] The album featured the songs "Long Song Away," "Be Great" (and its remix), the remix to "Dream," and "Don't Go."[16] In May 2017, Ross began a North American headlining tour in support of the album.[18]

In September 2017, Ross releases a new EP titled Drive.[5]
