Packaged food products sold in India are required to be labelled with a mandatory mark in order to be distinguished between lacto-vegetarian and non-vegetarian.[1] Although restaurants are not required to use the mark, they do use it to advertise availability of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Vegan Friendly mark is an optional mark that restaurants use to advertise availability of vegan food choices. Due to lack of another recognised vegan mark in India, packaged food companies producing vegan options are also using the Vegan Friendly mark.
