The San Diego Season of The Real World first aired on MTV in 2004. In the fourteenth edition of the popular reality series, seven strangers were chosen to live in a big blue house in San Diego Harbor.

The seven strangers were:

  • Brad
  • Cameran
  • Jamie
  • Frankie (episodes 1-22)
  • Jacquese
  • Randy
  • Robin
  • Charlie (episodes 23-25)

Plot

Brad, a frat boy from Chicago, rides his motorcycle everywhere. He is currently an accountant, but hates his job. Brad has a girlfriend of four years, Andrea, at home but eventually breaks up with her during the course of the filming. Brad is flirtatious toward Cameran and has a one night stand. Brad is of Italian heritage.

Cameran is a Southern belle from South Carolina who is generally disapproving of 'yankees', or those from the northern United States. She doesn't want to think about ever making out with a Northern boy, but she eventually does after a drunken tryst with Brad. Cameran is very ambivalent toward sex - she is disgusted at the idea of having sex with Brad and yet hints at masturbation at certain points in the series.

Jamie, is a University of California, Riverside student. She wants to find a way to incorporate her Korean heritage into her life, but has trouble communicating with her parents, who know very little English. Jamie is probably the most level-headed of the cast and doesn't do anything extreme during the course of the show.

Frankie is a troubled vamp from Kansas City who is crazily in love with her boyfriend Dave, who remains at home. Frankie gets drunk easily during the course of the show and is shown to be promiscuous very early in the series when intoxicated. Frankie gets involved with Adam, an acquaintance met early in the series but finds him to be somewhat creepy after he repeatedly calls her, despite her showing disinterest. Frankie believes she is the outcast of the group and her negative social behaviors lead to her deciding to leave the house. Frankie's mother and younger sister come to visit her prior to her leaving in order to try and sort out her feelings of rejection and homesickness, but to no avail.

Jacquese is a college student from New Jersey who takes pride in being one of the few members of his family - and community - to attend college. Understanding and kind, Jacquese gets little camera time due to his lack of drunkenness or partying compared to the other cast members but is shown to be a good friend to all, even the troubled Frankie. Jacquese is nicknamed 'Ja'.

Randy, who is the oldest of the housemates, is a bouncer (doorman) from Boston. He is an artist is easygoing, sometimes to the point of being overly accepting of what happens in the house. Randy gets drunk often and becomes overly sensitive and easily angered. Randy and Robin have a semi-romantic relationship for part of the series that many of the other cast members interpret as sexual, due to a drunken comment they overhear while Randy and Robin are in bed together.

Robin is a bartender from Tampa, Florida and works at a Coyote Ugly bar. Robin, much like her peers, gets drunk easily and often during the series. She is romantically involved with Randy for a period of time, but at the end of the series, is linked with Mike, a member of the United States Marines. Ironic considering that she slapped an off-duty Marine earlier in the series during a drunken stupor and this resulted in an overnight stay in the city jail.

Charlie is Frankie's replacement and is only on the show for two episodes. He decides to skip work one day and this subsequently makes the housemates lose their $250 bonus for their job. He is an aspiring musician and brings his guitar to the house.

Job

The seven housemates worked at a San Diego Harbor boat named "Stars and Stripes" which carried visitors daily. The cast members worked as tour guides and worked on maintaining the ship in their spare time. This creates a problem for Frankie, who has an odd phobia of boats and is initially frightened by the sight of the harbor they are frequently at.
