The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair is an upcoming fantasy adventure film based on The Silver Chair, the fourth novel published in C. S. Lewis's epic fantasy series The Chronicles of Narnia (and sixth in internal chronological order). It is intended to be the fourth installment in The Chronicles of Narnia film series, and the first film in the series to be produced by The Mark Gordon Company.[1] This will be the first film in the series to be distributed by TriStar Pictures and Entertainment One.

Production

Development

In February 2011 after the release of The Voyage of The Dawn Treader it was reported that The Magician's Nephew would be the next film in the series.[2] However in June, During the negotiations between 20th Century Fox, Walden Media, and the C.S. Lewis Estate, the film option that Walden Media owned was allowed to expire and Walden no longer had exclusive purchasing rights to any further Narnia films. In May 2012 Producer Douglas Gresham confirmed that Walden Media's contract with the C.S Lewis Estate had expired, and that there was a moratorium on producing any Narnia films outside of Walden Media.[1][3] Also stating that he would like to make The Silver Chair next.

On October 1, 2013, it was announced that The C.S. Lewis Company had entered into an agreement with The Mark Gordon Company to jointly develop and produce The Silver Chair.[4] in December David Magee was hired to write the screenplay.[5] In August 2016 TriStar Pictures would co-finance the film with The Mark Gordon Company and Entertainment One, with Sony distributing the film in North America and eOne distributing internationally.[6] On April 26, 2017, Joe Johnston was hired to direct the film.[7] In October Johnston said filming is expected to begin in late, 2018.[8]
