[1] [2]
History
Shude High School was founded in 1929 by General Sun Zhen (孙震) as a private school. The teaching building and students' dormitory building were finished by 1931. The motto of the school is "loyalty, bravery and diligence" (忠,勇,勤). The school's educational goal is "building virtue and building character" (树德树人).
In 1932, the first batch of 50 boys and 50 girls were admitted into Boys' School and Girls' School, respectively.
In 1944, a national newspaper ranked Shude High School as one of the best 4 private schools in China.
In 1945, Li Zongren, then vice president of the Republic of China visited Shude High School.
In 1950, after the communist revolution, the administration of Shude High School was taken over by the municipal government and renamed to be No. 9 High School of Chengdu.
In the 1960s, No. 9 High School of Chengdu served as the middle school for children of the cadres of the Communist Party of China in Chengdu and Sichuan Province.
In 1980, Shude High School was honored as the Beacon high school of Sichuan Province.
In 1989, Shude High School celebrated its 60th anniversary, and changed its name back to the original form of Shude High School. Sun Jingshan (孙静山), grandson of Sun Zhen, the founder of the school, visited the school from Taiwan and gave a donation to the school's library.[3]

Controversy
From the late 1990s, a portion of students with lower enrollment examination scores was acepted in Shude High School, by paying an amount of money annually to the school administration. The school explained that the money is used for the development of the campus. This practice is common in Sichuan province for students who choose a key school with lower enrollment scores.
