Brændstrup (Braendstrup) is a small village in Southern Jutland, Denmark. The population of the village is below 200. Until 1 January 2007 Brændstrup was a part of the former Rødding Municipality, now it is a part of Vejen Municipality. Neighbouring municipalities are Haderslev Municipality to the south of Brændstrup and Esbjerg Municipality to the west. The mayor of the municipality is Egon Fræhr.
Brændstrup is known for its Christian School, Brændstrup Kristne Friskole. Brændstrup has plans to grow throughout the next years. Sightseeing locations worth noticing, are Stenmanden (English: The Stone Man), residing in a nearby forest. And one of only four authorized Harley Davidson affiliates in Denmark, placed in the middle of Brændstrup city. Recently though, Brændstrup attracted interest as the towns first "erotic content"-shop opened.
Farming
Brændstrup is (as is many of the surrounding towns) utterly surrounded by farms and forests, the deeply agricultural culture in Brændstrup is but a reflection of former times stiff feudal society norms.
Controversy
For many years Brændstrup was, (and is), without any shops and business' (excluding the Harley Davidson affiliate store), but at some point (further research is needed on this matter) in the 20th century, a "smugkro" (a speakeasy or sneaktavern. The meaning of the word being a place to consume alcohol but without permission or simply against the law), was present in the city on the main street. This was however stopped later on as the number of people willing to risk arrest and public disgrace decreased, along with the actual number of people in the village.
