Lamichhane can be of any caste. Mostly Brahmin or Chhetri belongs to Gotra "Garga". It is said that they had long roof which nepali meaning be Lamo Chhano, later became Lamichhane. There are also Lamichhane Gurung, one of the caste in Gurung community. Lamichhane is also seen in Dalit community.
