Coopernook

Coopernook is a village in mid-north New South Wales, Australia, post code 2426. It was until 22 March 2006 on the Pacific Highway until bypassed by the Coopernook Bypass [1].

It is 24 kilometres north of Taree and is administered by Greater Taree City Council [2].

The Coopernook School of Arts in Petrie Street was established in TBC. The Coopernook Primary School in Macquarie Street was established in the 19th century on TBC, and in 2006 had an enrolment of 81 [3].

Early inhabitants included the following families: Calvin, Buchanan, Gillogily.

Phone calls to Coopernook were initially made by calling the operator and asking for "Coopernook" and the phone number. For example, the Calvin family's number was 12. Therefore a trunk call was made to "Coopernook 12". Later, as subscriber trunk dialling was introduced the number eventually became initially 065 563-112 and finally 02 6556-3112. The last two digits were the heritage of the old trunk system.
