Internode founded in 1991 by Managing Director Simon Hackett is one of Australia’s major Internet Service Providers. The Company focuses on primarily on ADSL-based Internet Access. And also provides Business Class Internet Access (Internode Business Connect) and Web Hosting/Co-Location Services.
Internode is proudly based in Adelaide, South Australia, as demonstrated by its support for local events, such as the Adelaide Fringe Festival, the Variety Club of South Australia, and the commercial support given to it by the state government (almost all state departments use Internode) and other local business. The company's services are now available nationwide through many means including Citilan – a project sponsored partially by Internode; connecting the city of Adelaide via one large WiFi network.
July 1st 2002 saw the launch of the Internode Games Network, a private gaming network run by Internode for its ADSL customers. It has grown since then into the 2nd largest gaming network in Australia behind Telstra's GameArena.
In mid-2003, Internode's infrastructure company, Agile, installed its own equipment in the Telstra exchange at Meningie, South Australia. This made it the first exchange in Australia where ADSL was available, but not through Telstra.
Internode Also runs the only 3 public Steam content servers in Australia (Telstra’s Bigpond runs a private Content server for its Cable and ADSL Customers) As well as mirroring several large Download Sites such as Tucows and 3Dgamers
Today Internode is one of the more successful smaller ISPs in Australia, along with iiNet and Netspace, but intends to grow with introductions of more DSLAMs and VoIP Services “Real Soon Now”.
