New Tinsukia is a railway junction station on the Lumding-Dibrugarh section. It is located in Tinsukia district in the Indian state of Assam. It serves Tinsukia and the surrounding areas. It is the second station in the town of Tinsukia after the old Tinsukia Station.

History

The 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) wide metre gauge line from Dibrugarh steamer ghat to Makum was opened to passenger traffic on 16 July 1883.[1]

The metre gauge railway track earlier laid by Assam Bengal Railway from Chittagong to Lumding was extended to Tinsukia on the Dibru-Sadiya line in 1903.[1][2]

The project for the conversion of the Lumding-Dibrugarh section from metre gauge to 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) wide broad gauge was completed by the end of 1997.[3]

Amenities

New Tinsukia railway station has two double-bedded AC retiring rooms; 2 double bedded, a single bedded Non AC retiring rooms and a 7 bedded dormitory.[4]

Important trains are - Kamrup Express , train No 15959/60 running between Howrah Junction and Dibrugarh. 14055/56 Brahmaputra Mail running between Delhi and Dibrugarh. 15603/04 Intercity Express between Ledo and Kamakhya Junction Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express running between New Delhi and Dibrugarh. 13281/13282 New Tinsukia - Rajendra Nagar Weekly Express running between Patna and Tinsukia. Train No 15927/29 New Tinsukia-Rangiya Express originate and terminate at this station. Train no 15905/06 Vivek Express, 15903/04 Dibrugarh Chandigarh Express, 15933/34 Dibrugarh Amritsar Express, 15929/30 Dibrugarh Chennai Express, 15941/42 Dibrugarh Jhajha Express, 12525/26 Dibrugarh Kolkata Superfast Express, 15909/10 Avadh Assam Express and 15967/68 Dibrugarh Rangiya Express also halts at this station.
