The Red Dirt Skinners formed in 2011, but began under their current name after their marriage in May 2012. The duo consists of Rob and Sarah Skinner, both multi-instrumentalists originating from South East England and now residing in Ontario Canada

History

In 2013, the Red Dirt Skinners became the first band in history[1] to succeed at both the British Blues Awards (WINNER Instrumentalist of the Year 2014 (Runner-up 2013)[2]) and the British Country Music Awards (Horizon Act of the year and People's Choice).[3] Since then they have gone on to be nominated at the International Acoustic Music Awards.[4] Their fifth album, Behind The Wheel, was voted in several polls as Folk/Roots album of the Year in 2016.[5]

After a brief stint with a four piece blues rock band, Sarah and Rob were encouraged to perform more of their own material during a chance meeting with Lisa Marie Presley at one of their shows. The couple began writing together in early 2011 and they released their debut album, Grass Roots, that Autumn (originally under a different name).

In 2012, the couple's home was the subject of a burglary. Many instruments, computers and family heirlooms were stolen and never recovered. Rob and Sarah took inspiration from the situation, and from it was borne their second album, Home Sweet Home’'.[6]’’Home Sweet Home is a collection of songs written about the events of the weekend of the burglary.

Following on from the success of Home Sweet Home, and the positive support they had received from the British public, the Red Dirt Skinners released Sinking The Mary Rose in 2013 and subsequently Live in Aberdeen in 2014.[7]

Behind The Wheel, the fourth studio album was released on 24 March 2016 and garnered significant positive press.[8]

In 2017, Canadian Immigration determined the Red Dirt Skinners to be "performing at a world class level [9] and invited the duo (Sarah and Rob Skinner) to take up Permanent_residency_in_Canada [check quotation syntax] Under Utopian Skies will be the fifth studio album from the Red Dirt Skinners to be released in the Fall of 2018.
