Awareness ribbon
Awareness Ribbons are usually short pieces of ribbon folded into a loop and pinned on a person's clothing. Alternatively, the ribbons can be tied around an object or the image of the ribbon can be used as a sticker or magnet, especially on vehicles.
The meaning behind the awareness ribbon depends on its color. Yellow ribbons traditionally show support for soldiers during wartime. Pink ribbons were started by the American Cancer Society as a symbol of support for the victims and survivors of breast cancer. Red ribbons are a popular emblem of support for AIDS victims and the search for a cure.
A plain red ribbon, usually at least two inches wide, is often embossed with drug-free messages and worn during "red ribbon week" in schools across America.
