Anorith (アノプス Anopusu in Japanese, Anorith in German and French) is a fictional character in the Pokémon franchise. It was modeled after the fossil Anomalocaris.
Anorith's name is a combination of the word Anomalocaris and the suffix "lith", meaning rock or stone.
Characteristics
Appearance
Anorith is an ancient Pokémon that resembles the real-life animal it is based on, the Anomalocaris, with many pairs of "wings" along its side that enable it to swim. Its lobster-like forelimbs aid in hunting prey on the sea floor. At first glance, one may believe Anorith's eyes are the red markings on its head, but its eyes actually connected to its head by stalks, something like those of a snail.
Biology
Anorith fossils are found in the Desert of Route 111 in Hoenn, where, one can deduce, warm seas once flowed millions of years ago over Hoenn. Many of Anorith's attacks utilize its retractable sharp claws, which become even stronger when it evolves into Armaldo. Like most fossilized Pokémon, it is a combination of the Rock type, with its secondary type as Bug.
In the video games
Anorith are only found in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. They are an "extinct" Pokémon, meaning they cannot be found in the wild and must be ressurected from fossil items (compare to Omanyte and Kabuto). Ironically, it is weak to water type attacks. This is due to its rock type, but as a Pokemon living in water(long ago anyway) it should have an immunity to water attacks. Being a first-stage Pokémon, Anorith's stats aren't anything special, but enjoys good Attack. It is however, faster than its evolution, Armaldo.
In the animé
Episode 379: Where's Armaldo? Many Anorith can be seen inside the laboratory of the Professor. One of them evolves into an Armaldo, and goes into a rampage for its favorite food. Anorith is found at route 133 and is a male at level 20.
In other properties
In the card game
Like it's grass counterpart Lileep, Anorith has appeared four times in the card game, all being Stage-1 Rock (excluding Anorith δ) types evolved from Claw Fossil. It has appeared in:
- EX Sandstorm (twice)
- EX Legend Maker
- EX Holon Phantoms (as Anorith δ, Metal type)
