The VUHL 05 (pronounced ‘vool’, ‘oh five’) is a lightweight sports car in the B-segment, first presented in 2013 at the Royal Automobile Club in London.[1] At the beginning of its production, the car was assembled in Canada, tested in the United States and United Kingdom and returned to Mexico, where the final detail work was done,[2] In July 2015, the production of the vehicle was set up at a new plant in Querétaro.[3]
Characteristics
The body of the car is made of reinforced RTM plastic, with carbon fiber as an option, mounted on a subsidized aluminum chassis (aluminum honeycomb with 6061-T6 aluminum extrusions). It has a 240-hp 2,000 cc four-cylinder engine, with an option of 285 HP similar to the previous one but with an optimized induction system and re-calibrated ECU. It is at a distance of 110 millimetres (4.3 in) from the ground and its static weight distribution is 37% at the front and 63% at the back. With the 285 HP engine it reaches a maximum speed of 245 kilometres per hour (152 mph) and accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds, it also achieves a braking of 100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) to 0 in 31.6 meters (104 ft), thanks to perforated front brake discs 310 millimetres (12 in) and ventilated 280 millimetres (11 in) brake discs in the rear.[4]
VUHL 05 RR
On June 13, 2016 the VUHL 05 RR was presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2016 and will be street legal. The VUHL 05 RR has a weight of 640 kilograms (1,410 lb), thanks to its construction in aluminum and carbon and to its 100% carbon fiber wheels. It has a 2.3 liter Ford EcoBoost engine that offers a power of 385 HP, which allows acceleration from 0 to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in 2.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 257 kilometres per hour (160 mph).[5][6][7][8][9][10]
