Just to let you know I reviewed Ontario Highway 63 at GAN and put the article on hold for fixes to be made. The review is here. Dough4872 04:53, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Floydian, the bot for the GA process didn't post a notice to your talk page—as it is supposed to—when the GA review was put on hold back on February 2. Ontario Highway 407

Hello Floydian, as the resident Ontario Highway Guru, I'd like your opinion on something. Mid last year I took File:Ontario Highway 407 Construction at Harmony Road.JPG, and I wasn't sure if or where it should go in the article (I was thinking in the future section, but it's pretty crowded with the infobox, bridge construction picture, and map). Thoughts? --kelapstick(bainuu) 22:20, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm... that section is pretty crowded, but you've got a very nice picture there. The article will be getting a significant reorganizing in the next few months. For now it seems the ideal place would be replacing the picture of the entrance sign. - Floydian τ ¢ 23:00, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, I have gone ahead and replaced it. If it gets reverted, I will just wait until the article gets restructured as you say is going to happen. I was fortunate to see that while flying from Thunder Bay to Billy Bishop Airport, and thought it would be a good one to have. We don't often get aerial photos of major highway construction, nice to have on record. The quality isn't fantastic, but not bad for a phone through a window. Thanks, --kelapstick(bainuu) 23:07, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Highway 400/69

Earlier today, an IP editor tried to update the exit list table on Ontario Highway 400 to reflect the fact that the interchange at Ontario Highway 64 is now open — however, their edits borked the table (specifically, by breaking the "location" links to French River and Unorganized North Sudbury District), and had to be reverted because I don't know how to fix them. Since you're much more the expert in the coding for those tables than I am, I was wondering if you could update the table properly. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 22:42, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

TFL notification

Hi, Floydian. I'm just posting to let you know that 400-series highways – a list that you have been heavily involved with – has been chosen to appear on the Main Page as Today's featured list for September 19. The TFL blurb can be seen here. If you have any thoughts on the selection, please post them on my talk page or at TFL talk. Regards, Giants2008 (Talk) 20:23, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Floydian, I just came back from a break and saw your post at TFL talk. I can certainly replace the list if you'd like, keeping it in reserve for next year. Unfortunately, we can't run it on July 1 as you had wanted, because that day is a Saturday and TFL only runs on Tuesdays and Fridays. We can run it the day before (June 30) if you want. Let me know if this is all right for you, and I'll schedule something else for the 19th when I have time. Giants2008 (Talk) 15:19, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Giants2008: June 30th would work for me. One day off is close enough. - Floydian τ ¢ 02:05, 6 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

FAC voluntary mentoring scheme

During a recent lengthy discussion on the WP:FAC talkpage, several ideas were put forward as to how this procedure could be improved, particularly in making it more user-friendly towards first-time nominees. The promotion rate for first-timers at FAC is depressingly low – around 16 percent – which is a cause for concern. To help remedy this, Mike Christie and I, with the co-operation of the FAC coordinators, have devised a voluntary mentoring scheme, in which newcomers will guided by more experienced editors through the stages of preparation and submission of their articles. The general format of the scheme is explained in more detail on Wikipedia: Mentoring for FAC, which also includes a list of editors who have indicated that they are prepared to act as mentors.

Would you be prepared to take on this role occasionally? If so, please add your name to the list. By doing so you incur no obligation; it will be entirely for you to decide how often and on which articles you want to act in this capacity. We anticipate that the scheme will have a trial run for a few months before we appraise its effectiveness. Your participation will be most welcome. Highway 17 revision

Hey Justin,

Apparently without looking at a map that would give you an answer you took away my edit explaining that Highway 17 goes beyond Arnprior into the city limits of Ottawa. I happen to live in the area and drive this stretch of Highway 17 quite often. It starts at Madawaska Blvd and goes until Grants Side Rd. Upper Dwyer Rd has nothing to do with it. Always has been a separate road.

192.95.183.216 (talk) 20:35, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That's Old Highway 17, or possible remnant signs that weren't removed by the county. The only section that might still be part of 17 is Madawaska Boulevard from County Road 29 south to Kinburn Side Road, the section most-recently bypassed by the 417 twinning. - Floydian τ ¢ 23:52, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Highway 17 beyond Arnprior to Ottawa

From Madawaska Blvd to Kinburn Side Rd Highway 17 exists (and beyond to Grants Side Rd passed the old Antrim Truck Stop). There are plenty of roads that used to be Highway 17 like Donald B. Munro and even Mohrs Side Rd in the area. On the other side of Ottawa from Rockland to Hwy 417, near Quebec the old Highway 17 has been downgraded and re-signed as County Rd 17 but not the part I drive on in the Western rural area of Ottawa. If you could show me something official that indicates this is no longer part of Highway 17 it would be greatly appreciated. The road signs and all the maps I see still have this section as part of Kings Highway 17 despite now being disconnected by the Arnprior bypass. There is an old part of Highway 17 now part of Breezy Heights. That might have been bypassed in 1998 or thereabouts. There is a road called Old Highway 17 on the east side of Rockland that follows the Ottawa River. No doubt 17 has been modified and re-routed many times over the years. 67.70.16.213 (talk) 16:34, 19 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Highway 17

So I checked with the OPP in Arnprior. Although they do not patrol the highway within the Ottawa city limits they can confirm that the disconnected section is still officially Highway 17. Many people do call it "Old 17" & this section once repaved will probably be handed over to the City of Ottawa. At least that's what the Arnprior OPP told me. No idea when the transfer will happen. The bridge needs replacing over the Mississippi River and that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon so it might still officially be a provincial road for a while longer.

{{ONint}}

Hi there. I think there's something wrong with this template, as it creates incorrect links for regional municipalities. The sister template {{ONintfiller}} seems to work correctly. Examples of the error can be seen at Ontario Highway 427 (see last entry in division column of "exit list"), Ontario Highway 401 (Waterloo, Halton, Peel, Durham links all incorrect), and others. The link targets are correct, but the piped text is borked. Mindmatrix 22:20, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah it's been that way for nearly a year at this point. I thought I raised the issue somewhere, but it may have been on IRC. ONint simply passes parameters into {{Jctint/core}}; seems the coding for Ontario wasn't migrated properly to Lua for the division (but not division_special) parameter. I've made a change to ONint that hard codes the links and piping before passing it through. Browsing through a few routes, it seems to have fixed the issue. Let me know if you see any new or lingering malfunctions :) - Floydian τ ¢ 10:25, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ontario Highway 10 edit

You reworded my edit in the article and said Lakeshore Road wasn't built until 1914. Wasn't it a concession road (grids built in the late 1700s) before with Hurontario St./the Toronto-Sydenham Road heading north from it?

Also, if kind of off topic:

If the T-S road was the southern part of Hurontario, was the latter built south from Collingwood with the name Centre Road, later acquiring the Hurontario name when it reached today's Hwy. 89 and linked with the southern section of the T-S Road, resulting in the complete interlake route and renaming (Even though the T-S road already ran between the lakes by going to Owen Sound.)? I'm asking the second question because I'd like to include that in the Hurontario Street article if that's the case.

PS: Could I remove the bolded link to the Hurontario Street article in the intro as its already linked in the See also link just above it?Transportfan70 (talk) 04:54, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Concessions and sideline were surveyed in the late 1700s and early 1800s, but many weren't built until settlers took up land grants and built the surveyed trails into "passable" (read: mud hole) wagon roads. Lakeshore existed, but Dundas was the main highway with regular stagecoach stops between Toronto and Hamilton until the Toronto-Hamilton Highway (Lakeshore Road) was built in 1914. Regarding the second question, you are spot on. Regarding the third, yes, remove the link but leave it bold if its the first mention in the article. Apologies on the delayed response. - Floydian τ ¢ 06:06, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lakeshore Road edit

Thank you for the input for "my" Lakeshore Road article. But I'm just curious about why you deleted the original article and redirected the title to the Ontario Highway 2 article back in 2011 rather than improve it? Transportfan70 (talk) 17:54, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Because it really is just part of a bigger topic, and I feel it is silly to have articles on portions of a larger road, as most road articles can do with the condensed extra information. - Floydian τ ¢ 23:02, 31 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

TCH signs

Thank you for thanking me (!) for creating the TCH signs. I was wondering if, for multiple-named routes along a highway, I should post all the named route shields and a blank version for sections without names for the highways the TCH follows in the infobox, or should I just use a blank Ontario version to avoid clutter?

Also, the Airport Road (Ontario) article I created has been nominated for deletion. I wonder if you could have a look and vote (Hopefully for "keep"!)? Transportfan70 (talk) 01:17, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't get to it in time, though to be honest I agree with the decision. Blogs and google maps are ok for minor facts, but they by no means provide notability. If you have a Toronto Library card, check out pages of the past; you may find what you need to justify it.
As for the shields, I recommend limiting it to one per infobox. If there are multiple TCH designations, stick with the blank shield in the infobox. - Floydian τ ¢ 02:10, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have it on good authority that this will be heading to TFA soon, but I'm having trouble following the first two sentences: "King's Highway 71, commonly referred to as Highway 71, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. The 194-kilometre-long (121 mi) route travels concurrently with Highway 11 for 40 kilometres (25 mi) from the Fort Frances-International Falls International Bridge in Fort Frances, where it continues south as US Route 53 (US 53) and US Route 71 (US 71) in Minnesota." The part that's in the US isn't provincially maintained, is it? Or does Ontario Highway 71 never enter the US? - Dank (push to talk) 22:32, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, that would be a strange inter-government agreement. ON 71 ends at the border on the bridge (though I'd imagine the Ministry of Transportation jurisdiction ends at the Canadian side of the privately-owned bridge). I've reworded this to make it clear that it's the road that continues, not the highway number, let me know how that is. Hoping this will appear for Sept 1, as that is the 80th anniversary. Just nominated it. - Floydian τ ¢ 00:09, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Since you seem to be interested :-), would you know where to get the specs of the bridge? For the infobox. I want to fill out the infobox, and I thought I'd take some pictures this weekend before I move the article to main space. Alaney2k (talk) 14:41, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've never found the specs myself; I know Stamp's and the DHO books don't provide it. I doubt it's something readily avaailble unfortunately. I suggest trying the MTO, see if they can give you info; if not, a Toronto Star or G&M article from the late 30s is a good bet. You can also try the Niagara Historical Society, or perhaps there is a St. Kitts equivalent. At the worst, contact the MTO for an as-built drawing of the bridge; last-ditch-effort would be an FOI on those same drawings. - Floydian τ ¢ 23:11, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
On further thought, this bridge is likely owned by the St. Lawrence Sea Authority. the type of drawing you'd want is called a GA, or General Assembly drawing. Blueprints essentially. - Floydian τ ¢ 19:24, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada Roads/Ontario/Redirects What does this page refer to? I could work on it, but I am not sure what steps need to be done. Maybe you know? Alaney2k (talk) 16:35, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It predates my involvement, but it's basically all the "common" redirects for each highway number to showcase which redirects have been or haven't been made. - Floydian τ ¢ 18:37, 29 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ON 59: Response

Hi! Thank you for your message on my talk page! I went ahead and changed the colours on my Highway 59 map to match the one you created for Highway 77. I didn't change the actual route colours though because the uses are differently on the Highway 59 map. However, if you want me to, I will be happy to do it! Thank you for all of your edits and contributions to the Ontario Highways! Cheers! Ldnontwiki (talk) 18:15, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
