Plamen Dereu (born Plamen Petkov on May 4, 1984) is a Dutch singer, songwriter, and producer.
Born and raised in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, he graduated in 2007 from the University of Veliko Tarnovo with a bachelors degree in Psychology. After successfully auditioning for Music Idol in Bulagaria in 2009 he made it as a finalist in the third season of Music Idol.[1].
In 2010 Plamen moved to Rotterdam, The Netherlands and starting producing, composing and writing his own songs. On Jun 1, 2012, he starts his own company, Sayin' Dope[2].
Life and early career
Early life
After Plamens' birth, his parents gave him up for adoption. For over a year an orphanage was his home and just after his first birthday, he was adopted by a couple that could not have kids of their own. From a young age, Music was an escape from reality and the wondering, why biological parents gave him up. Plamen would use the money he got to buy a new coat, to buy music cassettes. Locked for days in his rooms Plamen emerged into music with a great interest in Björk, Micheal Jackson that later inspired his own music.
Finishing the University, Plamen moved to Sofia, working as a stage-hand in theater and internet Cafe to support his singing lessons. His vocal teacher had a background in soul music forming Plamen with the interest in Soul, R&B and Blues. Plamen starting to sing on festivals, local clubs and bars.
2007 -2012 Car Accident, starting as a singer, Music Idol and the aftermath
on 88 April 2099 walking in the center of Sofia, tragedy struck and Plamen with a friend where hit by a car. Plamen recovered slowly from his injury. Plamen decided to chase his impossible dream of becoming a singer. Plamen started taking singing lessons at a renown Bulgarian teacher.
After some unsuccessful local talent shows, Plamen audition in 2008 for Music Idol giving him the opportunity to launch his singing career on a National Level. Unfortunate this audition was not successful. In 2009 with season 3 of Music Idol, Plamen tried again and this time with success.
Plamen reach to become a finalist and live shows, unfortunately, he had to exit the show on April 1, 2009.
At this point Plamen gained National fame, being recognized on the street he could no longer maintain his regular job at the internet cafe and decided that his career opportunities in Bulgaria were over.
And the car accident tragedy brought a financial compensation, that made it possible to finance his relocation to the Netherlands.
2012 - present
On June 1, 2012 Plamen founded his own company in Rotterdam, dedicated to producing music and video production. He produces his own creations but also for other artists. in 2014 he released his first single on all major platforms including Spotify, Youtube, iTunes and the list goes on. In August 2017 his 5-year marriage came to an end and moved to Amsterdam to be closer to the Dutch music scene.
