Anthony Šerić [ˈʃɛːritɕ] (born January 15, 1979), also known by his nickname as Ante Šerić, is a Croatian-Australian football player who currently plays in Greece for Panathinaikos and for the Croatian national team.
Šerić was born to a Croatian family in Sydney, Australia and received a football scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport. He began his professional football career in Split, Croatia where he played for Hajduk Split. He then moved to Italy to play in Serie A, initially with Verona and then Brescia, Parma and Lazio, before signing for Panathinaikos in 2005.
He made his debut for the Croatian national team in a friendly match against Slovakia on May 29, 1998 in Pula and collected up to this time a total of 14 international caps for the team. In 1998, he was infamously picked for both Australia and Croatia. [1] He chose to play for Croatia despite his being born and bred in Australia.
He has since been a part of the Croatian squad at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups, but did not play any matches on all of these three tournaments.
