Hallelujah (or Alleluia) is a term used in the Christian Bible to praise God. Traditionally, it is held to be the root of the Hebrew expression Hallelu-Yah literally translates as "Praise Jah/Yah, you people!" or simply "Praise Jah/Yah!" Jah/Yah is the shortened form of the name Jehovah/Yahweh.

The term is used about 24 times in the Old Testament (mainly in the book of Psalms, where it starts and concludes a number of Psalms) and four times in Greek transliteration in Revelation.

Hallelujah is also the title of a song by Leonard Cohen, also sung by John Cale, Jeff Buckley , Rufus Wainwright, india.arie and k. d. lang

The "Hallelujah" chorus from Handel's Messiah is also a famous use of the word.
