The Pierce County Rural Library District was established by the Washington State Legislature in 1946. Its headquarters was in Tacoma, WA for more than forty years. Today, with a Processing and Administrative Center in the Summit area, the Pierce County Library System has 17 branches. The busiest branch is the South Hill Library.
