Das Boot is an upcoming television series scheduled to be released in the second half of 2018 on the TV channel Sky.[1][2] The 8 episode (1 hour each) WW2 series is a sequel to the 1981 movie "Das Boot" which is based on a book by Lothar Günther Buchheim.

Plot

The story continues a few months after the movie's storyline and is split into 2 narratives, one based on land, the other set around the submarine. The focus will be on both a German U-boat crew and the French resistance trying to disrupt their activities.

Cast

Production

In July 2016, it was announced that the film Das Boot will be adapted into a television series [5] [6]. As of September 2017, the series is in production and is planned to premiere at the end of 2018 on multiple European channels of Sky plc [7]. It is being produced by Bavaria Fiction, Sky Deutschland and Sonar Entertainment. [8].

Like the movie, the 2018 series is based on the book "Das Boot", but with additions from "Die Festung".[3][2]

The submarine used in filming was used in U-571, and Ghostboat[9]

Germany (Munich), France (La Rochelle), Czech Republic (Prague) and Malta were chosen for the on location shooting which started on 31 August, 2017 and finished after 105 days on 20 February, 2018.[3][2][1][10] As the former works plot ends in December 1941, the setting is the year 1942. The budget was 32.8 Million $. [11]
