Move draft to article space
I just finished my draft of a movie, and I’m trying to get it moved/published to the article space, but the instructions I found are not working for me. How do I do this?

- Hello MissTofATX. I guess you are talking aboout Draft:Teenage Seductress (1975 Film). You could simply move it to article space, but I don't recommend that unless you are pretty sure it meets the standard for an article. A better solution, when it's ready, is to submit it for review by inserting {{subst:submit}} (with the double curly brackets) at the top. In time, a reviewer will look at it, and either accept it and move it to main space, or decline it and give you the reasons.
- However, it is not worth submitting it at present, because it hasn't got a single reference. Please remember that Wikipedia has no interest whatever in what a random person on the internet thinks or knows about a subject - whether that random person is you, me, or anybody else. All Wikipedia articles need to be entirely based on what reliable published sources say about the subject, and ideally these sources should be cited: please see referencing for beginners.
- Two other points: first, the parenthesised explanation "(1975 Film)" should not be in the title unless it is required to distinguish the article from something else with the same name. Don't worry about that now, though: the accepting reviewer will sort it out when they move it to main space. More seriously, the image is almost certainly not acceptable for copyright reasons. Images can be uploaded to Commons only if they are free for reuse (i.e. have been explicitly released by the copyright owner). This is rarely the case for film posters, and unless you can provide evidence that this has been released, it will shortly be deleted from Commons. However, Wikipedia articles about films and books do sometimes use images of their posters according to the non-free content criteria. Such images must be uploaded to Wikipedia itself, not Commons, and all the criteria must be met. One of the criteria is that the image must be used in at least one article in main-space, so if you go that route, you will need to wait until the article has been moved into main space before uploading the image. - @ColinFine:, Yes that is the movie. the ability to "move" the draft was what I was referring to when I said I had instructions that were not working for me. Where are good places to look for movie posters/images to utilize in such a reference? What I had now was a movie poster image. What qualifies as a proper reference for the movie? I've read lots of film plots on wiki and have not seen something specifically referencing it?

- Hello again MissTofATX. I should give up worrying about the image for the moment. You're unlikely to find a free-for-use image, so it's irrelevant until the article is in mainspace. Images are icing on the cake anyway: the important thing about an article is its references.
- It's established that the film itself can be used as the source for the plot summary (see MOS:PLOT). But unless you get some solid reliable references about the film, the article will never be accepted, because you will not have established that the film is notable. Wikipedia is only interested in subjects where several people, unconnected with the subject, have chosen to write in some depth about it, and been published in reliable places. That is what the bulk of every Wikipedia article should be based on: a plot summary is only a little more important than an image. See WP:NOTPLOT--ColinFine (talk) 09:31, 22 April 2018 (UTC)

- @RBETZ: I guess you mean List of plantations in Louisiana. The code is there. Click the Edit tab at top of the page or the edit link at the heading of the section you want to edit. - @Daniel Nefs: Hello, the problem seems to be ethat you added a date in respect of service resumption without providing a reliable source to corroborate your information. It's not a particularly serious situation — some editors would probably have given a milder 'caution as a result of your edit. As it says at your talk page you are quite at liberty to restore the information providing you supply a source. - @Daniel Nefs: If there is information at a Wikipedia page which is referenced you can use it in another Wiki. page. However, you must provide an independent reliable source. (You can use the same source, it does not have to be in English). You cannot use a Wiki page as a reference (see WP:UGC). Philip Milito (February 28, 1953 – June 16, 2016) was an American poet, born and raised in the Northeast Bronx. He produced thousands of poems. He also contributed numerous critical commentaries to The Canadian Encyclopedia and Banned Books: Literature Suppressed on Religious Grounds.[1] His poetry is notable for its evocative imagery, the struggle with God and the human condition, its occasional biting humor, and its dark vision. His often quoted poem Twice-Poisoned Dog[2] reflects his worldview, at least in part: “We desire the way / A twice-poisoned dog / Eyes a third piece of meat.” He was particularly interested in, and felt a kinship with, society’s outcasts, a subject that he explored in depth in his book-length poem, Wails of the Wraecca, which was inspired by the old English Anglo-Saxon poem The Wanderer. Early Years Milito attended St. Lucy’s School, PS 89, JHS 135, Christopher Columbus High School, and Hunter College. Milito developed a strong interest in poetry and music as a teenager and began to compose original poems and lyrics. He also became an accomplished harmonica player. After leaving Hunter College, Milito moved to the Los Angeles area, but he returned to New York City in 1978 and worked at a variety of odd jobs while he continued to write and occasionally publish. In 1988, he began to work at the Mid-Manhattan Library, a branch of the New York Public Library in Manhattan, and a year later joined the staff of the Henry W. and Albert A. Berg Collection of English and American Literature at the New York Public Library on 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue, where he served a specialized reading public for nearly 20 years, before retiring in 2008 to write full time. Influences Milito read both widely and deeply, and his eclectic literary taste found a home in the work of many writers and musicians, chief among them Bob Dylan and Kenneth Rexroth. Other influences included James Agee, W. H. Auden, Charles Baudelaire, William Blake, Charles Bukowski, Leonard Cohen, James Joyce, Malcolm Lowry, Kenneth Patchen, Arthur Rimbaud, and Walt Whitman, to name only some of those he read continually throughout his lifetime. Death In May 2015, Milito was diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer. He died on June 16, 2016, in Astoria, New York, at Mt. Sinai Hospital of Queens. - The publisher parameter does not automatically italicise the content whereas the 'work' and 'website' parameters do. Italics are meant for things such as newspapers, magazines, films etc. I.e. a 'work' in the creative sense. In this case the BBC is an 'organisation' and therefore not normally italicised. If you'd used website and (say)
bbc.co.uk

- Hello, Performaphage. It looks as if you have defined multiple citations (which is fine) but given them all the same name (which is not). If you would tell us which page this was on, we could look. The only content page you appear to have edited is Draft:CultureHub, which you started after this message. On the Islamic state of Iraq and the levent along the side it says that "state opponents" and "non-state opponents", I don't think that those words (that i put in quotes) are the proper words, but i can not edit that to make it correct because it has a lock on it. It is the norm that articles are written by people who are not family of the subject: friends, relatives, and associates of a subject are discouraged from directly editing an article about the subject. If you wish to suggest improvements to the article about your grandfather, you are welcome to suggest them on the article's talk page - if you add {{edit request}} (with the double curly brackets) it will put your suggestion on a list of waiting edits. Secondly, we require that all information be found in reliably published sources. If information you want to add has been published somewhere, it can be added (it will be helpful if you identify the sources, but another editor might be able to find them). - The article Bappusaheb Bhosale was deleted by a community discussion (this one) because it did not comply with the sourcing requirements of WP:BIO (in-depth coverage in reliable secondary sources). You may appeal the deletion at this page, or may ask for the page to be restored to Draft space so you can work on it to try to fix the problems that led to it being deleted. No urgent action is required, and nor are the users involved "unsocial elements"; they are merely normal editors performing normal tasks. Also, your name is the same as the article - although I note you did not write the original article, this is just to note you should not be writing about yourself. Integrating a sandbox with existing Wikipedia content
I have written an article in my personal sandbox that I want to integrate with existing wikipedia articles, but none of those articles cover the overall development of the body of work. Each article in the overall space covers their specific piece of work but do not fit it into the broader set of activities. As a metaphor, each article covers the development of some house subsystem (e.g. electrical, plumbing, heating, etc) but there is no article about how the house itself was assembled, and subsystems created. How do I introduce the overall entry into the wikipedia content and then tie specific articles into it.
In addition, many of the articles to be stitched into the larger fabric are somewhat out of date, and perhaps not actively maintained. Are their effective ways to prod the editors of those pages to maintain their content. (There were at least five main pages that were out of date in referencing various initiatives within the larger fabric.) removal of refs back to wikipedia
Is there anything special that should be done on removing references back to wikipedia? For example Newark, New Jersey contains <ref>https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nat_Turner</ref>. using the deadlink template instead doesn't seem correct...Naraht (talk)

Possible entry by person paid to create it on behalf of another
I would appreciate your review of the issue I've just raised in my addition to the talk page at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Tana_French#The_Witch_Elm. Do I have a valid point here? Isn't there a rule against someone creating an entry if that person is being paid to do so on behalf of another? By the way, I happen to love Tana French's writing and have read most of her books, so I have no no vendetta or axe to grind. But I would hate to see Wikipedia tainted by commercialism. - Hello, BuzzWeiser196. Thanks for helping us improve Wikipedia. There are several issues here:
- information does not belong in Wikipedia unless it has been reliably published somewhere. Period. If you find unsourced information in an article, you may remove it. If you think it might be right, then it would be better to find a citation yourself, or mark it with {{citation needed}} if you haven't the time or inclination to do so. But if you think it is wrong or unverifiable, be BOLD and remove it. (If you remove it, and it turns out that there is a source that is relatively easy to find, another editor might be annoyed with you, but they can always restore it with a citation).
- for certain purposes, information can come from non-independent sources (eg the subject's own website)- see WP:PRIMARY. But I would agree that announcements of future publications or releases are not usually appropriate unless they have already been the subject of independently-published notice. (See WP:CRYSTALBALL).
- The last two entries in the book list were inserted by Panderson458 (who I have just pinged). Most of that user's recent edits appear to be adding 2018 publications to articles about authors, so I would concur with you that the are probably here for promotional reasons, and very likely paid to do so. Panderson458, if I am wrong about that I apologise; but in any case please stop inserting the names of books without citations. And if you are in any way involved with the authors or their publishers or agents, please review the advice for editors with a conflict of interest (and particularly the constraints on paid editing if that is relevant), and be aware that promotion of any kind is forbidden on Wikipedia. --ColinFine (talk) 13:03, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

Searching for terms used by vandals
Hello! I've recently noticed some repetitive and just plain nasty cases of vandalism on the Simple English wiki committed by IP addresses registered to Italian ISPs (such as this one), which I would like to track down. Is there a way to use the Recent Changes page to show, for example, all anonymous IP edits which involved replacing all content on a page in the Wikipedia namespace with a particular word, such as the F-word? I already know how to filter results to certain namespaces and to anonymous editors, but if I can further search for particular terms, such as those used in edit summaries, it could aid in tracking cases of LTA. - How about Lupin's Anti-vandal tool? It's quite old, but it still works. It has a list of bad words that it detects in recent changes (which you can prudently edit, if there's anything you wish to add). Related to deletion of a page - Bahujan Azad Party
I have placed the following deletion tag 'subst:afd' on the Wikipedia page Bahujan Azad Party. I would like to ask the following questions to clarify certain points regarding this:
1. This page has been created by a user User:SoganSinghBakra who does not have a userpage. Do I have to create their userpage to inform the user of the same?
2. Am I following correct procedure? Apart from placing the tag and stating my reason on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bahujan Azad Party do I have to do anything else?
3. I understand that only a admin can delete a page. But i just want to clarify about who can create the discussion page also.

should display BERBER and not BERBER LANGUAGES
Hello boys and girls,
Somebody has changed what the editing code {{lang-ber|.......}}
displays on Wikipedia pages. They changed it from displaying Berber (singular) to displaying Berber languages (plural). This bad change occurred a couple of months ago.
Before this rediculous change, the code {{lang-ber|.......}}
has always displayed Berber as it should, just like the code {{lang-en|........}}
always displays English instead of the rediculous English languages (as in the dialects of UK, US, AUS, NZ, CAN...).
I assume this person who changed the display of the code {{lang-ber|.......}}
is arguing that there are many Berber languages/dialects. But this is the case in all languages of the world with no exception. Every language has sub-languages and dialects and accents. The Berber language (local name: Tamazight or Amazigh) is specified as ONE SINGLE SINGULAR language in the two official and current constitutions of the countries of Morocco and Algeria.

must be restored to its old and original Wikipedian expression/display which is simply: Berber.

Copied template
Might someone be kind enough to help me with Template:Copied? For some reason I'm having difficulty getting it to render properly.
The source page was 2014–2018 Nicaraguan protests and revision ID 837994923; part of it was copied to create 2018 Nicaraguan protests at 15:27, 24 April 2018, revision ID 838040342. I'm trying to record this properly on the talk pages, but the latter diff is not linking properly. I can get Template:Split_article to work but there's a content discussion ongoing on whether the new page will really be a split or instead subpage to elaborate on the original page, so I'd prefer just to use the more generic copy template if possible.

Issue with important life-saving link
Hello,
I am very active in an alcohol recovery community on Reddit, and we often link your article on kindling to those who are new to sobriety. The problem is that the link itself is really messed up and it reroutes to the disambiguation or elsewhere. This is a huge problem because that link can make the difference between someone deciding to go to the hospital for lifesaving treatment or deciding not to. A URL issue in that moment could be disastrous. I know this seems small but it really isn't.
It seems as though the problem occurs with the last parenthesis, before the hashtag. It's like the URL disappears with that parenthesis when we post the link. I know that this might be Reddit-specific, but if you can help you could literally save a life.

- You failed to link a Reddit page with the problem so we cannot see what you do wrong. I guess you write a raw url like and rely on Reddit software to turn the text into a link. Many programs will omit an ending parenthesis from a url when turning it into a link. If your software links without

Filmography Tables for Actors
Help! :)
Ok, not a big deal and I am trying to nip something in the bud.
While on RC patrol, I ran across two articles of actors where an IP editor is: -removing filmography tables -misquoting policies to justify their position -making up policies -insisting that if the tables are kept they be be as bare as possible (no info about awards etc). -exhibiting WP:OWN attitudes and behaviors
What I am looking for: Some other users with experience to look at these pages, especially someone who has lots of experience in film and acting pages, especially with tables Ways to find such editors... I have looked on Wikipedia:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers and don't see a place I can post.
Articles in question: Desmond Tan and Zen Chong

- Tables are acceptable in filmographies. (I personally don't like them, but only because they're extra work.) AFAIK, there is no policy or guideline that prohibits them, and I've been active in editing film-related articles for at least a decade. A couple of observations though. First, TV series don't belong in a filmography. They should go in a separate section. Second, we generally don't include billing positions in the notes. Third, I don't quite know what "pairs with" means exactly, and if it's what I suspect, it's not particularly noteworthy. Clarityfiend (talk) 02:31, 25 April 2018 (UTC)

Login Attempts
Haven't found information about this anywhere else, so figured I'd ask here. I'm not too active anymore, but for the past year (perhaps longer, since LoginNotify was launched) someone has been really, really determined to get into my account and I'm not quite sure why. I've gotten perhaps 50 failed login emails at this point, and they're still going at it from a host of different IP addresses. Not quite sure what my question is, just looking for insight or perhaps information on what can be done (if anything). Shaun 05:53, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Shaun: Your username is a very common name, so it is very likely to be in the list of some bot that just tries things. If your username is sufficiently strong (say over 12 characters long or something) and not used for any other website, then their really is nothing to worry about, and in your case i would then suggest to simply turn off the notification for such attempts in your preferences. - @Shaun: I was worried about this too so I created a committed identity so that if someone does get into my account I can prove my true identity. Basically, you go to a website like this and enter a string of characters that you won't forget and nobody would guess (something that you will both never forget and will never need to change). If your account gets compromised and you're completely locked out, and people are unsure if you are really you, you just send that private string to ArbCom or whomever and they'll be able to verify that you're the legit person by just running that private string through the website and seeing that the output hash matches what's on your userpage. part of the committed identity is not needed. The hash (i.e. the string of gibberish characters you get as output) is seemingly random, but you do not need it to be "hard to guess" (unless you are extremely concerned about privacy, e.g. if your Wikipedia contributions would expose you to arrest by the local authorities); for the committed identity purpose, you want it "hard to fake", i.e. it should be hard to produce a collision attack (another string that has the same hash but indicates another person). - For instance, I can give some info about my committed identity string: it is of the form "<first name> <last name> (<email address>) is Tigraan", with the email address the standard firstname.lastname@domain and the domain contains only letters and at most 15 of them. This information makes it easier for you to guess what the string is, but it makes it harder to find a collision while respecting the given format (while controlling the given email and having ID for the name you give). Speed of Wikipedia coverage
How fast does Wikipedia write about events? I'm asking here for wording in page wp:About, which has claimed "within minutes" but I prefer phrase, "within hours" to wait on published sources to post details after/during a major event. Otherwise a claim of "minutes" seems to strongly imply first-person observations written about an event. - Actually Wikid77, "within minutes" is pretty accurate. Pretty much as soon as news hits someone creates an article, and often two or three that need to be merged with one another once they find each other. Basically, there is no limit to how fast articles about current events should be written, and in practice worldwide-news events usually get written about very quickly (in the internet area, news reports can arrive extremely fast after the event), but that should not be done at the detriment of quality.
- As for changing the wording of a particular page, before launching a full-scale RfC, why not post on the talk page (WT:About) first? RfCs are usually the last-resort option when multiple editors fail to find a consensus, so do not resort to them before you have even tested the waters. May I translate an entry from another language into English to create a page?
- Short answer: if that "entry" is from another Wikipedia, yes. If it is from elsewhere on the internet, probably not.
- See Wikipedia:Translation for the long answer. In particular pay attention to licensing requirements (usually just saying "translated from the article at Foo at date X" is ok, though you can do better) and do not use raw machine translation (proofread it before posting). Hi, I know there is a "Random article" feature, but is there any way to bring up a random featured ("gold star") article? (I know that I can go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_articles and click somewhere at random myself.)

removal of incorrect information

The line i am wishing to have removed is:
One of Campbell's last acts as the Chief of Army was to end a century of tradition by removing 'death imagery' from patches and badges.
This is not factually correct and the matter that it references is an internal Australian Army matter.
If anything the line can read
As Chief of Army, Angus Campbell issued and internal minute directing personnel to remove 'death symbology' from all items within the Army.

On Talk:Typhus#Typhus in concentration camps an IP editor writes: In all honesty it should be mentioned that the Germans invested tremendous efforts into hygienic measures like showers, Zyklon-B delousing gas chambers and others.
