(G)I-DLE (Korean: (여자)아이들; RR: Yeoja Aideul; short for GIRL-I-DLE) is a South Korean girl group formed by Cube Entertainment in 2018. The group consists of six members: Miyeon, Minnie, Soyeon, Soojin, Yuqi, and Shuhua. The group debuted on May 2nd, 2018

History

Pre-debut

Soyeon was previously introduced as one of the female trainee to represented Cube Entertainment on the Mnet survival show, Produce 101.[1] She remained a popular contestant throughout the show's run with peaking at 10th place on the 5th episode.[2] However, ranking at 20th place on the last episode she failed to become a member of the winning girl group, I.O.I.[3] Soyeon also appeared as a contestant of the third season of the rap competition show, Unpretty Rapstar.[4] The show finished with Soyeon as the second runner-up, where gaining three tracks on the show's final compilation album.[5] Soyeon later debuted as soloists with releasing two digital single "Jelly" (2017) and "Idle Song" (2018).

Miyeon was a former YG trainee.[6] Minnie, Yuqi and Shuhua appeared in the promotional video of Rising Star Cosmetic in June 2017. [7][8]Shuhua made an appearance with labelmate Yu Seon-ho in 10cm's music video for the song Pet in September 2017.[9] Minnie featured in Line Friends' album "Dance Party", which was released in November 2017.[10][11]From February till March 2018, Miyeon and Minnie made four cover videos under Dingo Music Youtube Channel. [12][13][14][15] Yuqi also appeared in the short video of Dingo Music. [16]

Cube Entertainment officially introducing Soyeon as the first member of their upcoming girl group on January 11, 2018.[17][18][19]On March 22, Cube Entertainment announced upcoming girl group will be named IDLE.[20]

On April 5, their group logo was revealed and the group named be (G)I-DLE. On April 8, Cube Entertainment revealed photo of two members: Miyeon and Yuqi.[21]Following, Soojin and Shuhua were revealed on April 10. [22] Minnie and Soyeon were revealed and becomes final line-up on April 12.[23]

2018: Debut with I Am

On May 2, (G)I-DLE officially released their debut mini album I Am, accompanied by the title track "LATATA".[24]
