Deepak Vinayak (born 8 November 1972) is an Award Winning Indian Australian community leader from Melbourne.[1] He was appointed as the People of Australia Ambassador by Prime Minister Julia Gillard for two consecutive years 2012 and 2013.[2][3] He is also a Justice of the Peace and as per Australian Government policy he provides voluntary service in document witnessing and certification services to the community.[4][5]
Career
Deepak completed BTech in civil engineering from Punjab of India and migrated to Australia in 1996.[6] He studied Interpretation and Translation at NMIT Preston, now Melbourne Polytechnic. He has also graduated from Victoria University with a Diploma of Engineering in Advanced Trade.[7] He currently works for the Metro Trains Melbourne[8]. His work in the community has been recognised by government and civil society. He was appointed People of Australia Ambassador[9] [10] for two times 2012 and 2013 by Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard[11]. Deepak also has been a four-time Australia Day Ambassador.[12][13] He was a member of Regional Advisory Council for North and West Metropolitan at Victorian Multicultural Commission, State Government of Victoria.[14][15]
Community engagement
He founded South Asian Community Link Group-Australasia[16][17], South Asian Youth Connect Australasia and Global Organization for People of Indian Origin Chapter in Melbourne[18] [19][20] [21] to engage with South Asian Australians in Victoria. He has extended support in community work by youth,[22] engaged with multifaith communities,[23][24] has hosted community gathering to engage policy makers with local community[25] and has partnered in Suicide Prevention.[26] He is also an R U OK and White Ribbon Ambassador.[27] He has been recognised as a Community Champion by Victoria University[28]
