Stage Stores, Inc. is a department store chain specializing mostly in retailing brand name clothing, accessories, cosmetics and footwear. The company operates stores mainly in small and mid-size towns and communities, primary in Midwestern, Southeastern, and Mid-Atlantic states with a growing presence in the New England states. Stage Stores is currently headquartered in Houston, Texas and operates about 550 stores under the Bealls, Palais Royal, Peebles and Stage nameplates.
On February 27, 2006, Stage Stores acquired B.C. Moore & Sons, Inc., adding 78 more stores (mainly in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina). Stage Stores currently plans to convert 69 of them to the Peebles name and format beginning in mid July. The other nine will be closed and/or sold.
