Mithila Student Union (MSU) (Hindi:मिथिला स्टूडेंट यूनियन) is a non-political[1] student organisation whose sole purpose is the development of Mithila and Maithils living across different cities in India. It is one of the largest student organisations[2] in Bihar and Jharkhand. It is a registered organization under the provisions of the Societies Registration Act under the Indian constitution and law. It is a completely non-political and non-profit organization whose objective is the overall development of the Mithila.
History
The organization was established in 2015 to improve the education system, unemployment, migration issues, illiteracy, poor condition of health facilities, and scarcity of small-scale industries in the Mithila region.
Activities
The MSU's manifesto includes agenda items such as reforms in the education system of the Mithila region and recruiting of new teaching staff in different universities and colleges in Bihar.
- 15 November 2017:[3] Mithila Student Union(MSU) protested in Lalit Narayan Mithila University[4] on different issue such as lack of teaching staff, reforms in education system and many more.LNMU Darbhanga is one of the most important institutions in Mithila on which about half million college student depends for their higher education but the government attention and conditions in university is worst.[5] 70% of Teaching and Academic positions are vacant. Library, laboratory and hostel Facilities are at poorest level. Neither classes are regular nor curriculum, exams and results are regular. MSU tried for a year by different methods to change this situation but when condition didn't get good, it declared for a movement(andolan)[6] on November 15, 2017 and started preparing for this. This campaigning and movement got the highest support till now and on November 15, about more than 3000 active members from all teams and students gathered in LNMU for a protest. When the Vice Chancellor of university came for discussion with our members(senani). He agreed on eleven agenda(mang) in written and asked for time to fulfill them. This movement became all time successful, every media house covered it and their Hashtag #MSU4LNMU on social media became trending. All people from all background came in their support, But this successful movement also brought some controversies along with some small contradiction of MSU with local BJP Leaders.
- 18 September 2017: Pradhyumn Thakur murder Case in Ryan International:[7][8] Candle march held at Jantar Manta activists from Mithila Students Union (MSU) carry out candle march at Jantar Mantar in Delhi over killing of 7-year-old student Pradhyumn Thakur.When a school going Maithil Kid in Delhi, Pradyumn was murdered, MSU again participated in Protest and Led a campaign for his justice. Police did a lathi charge on MSU members and public who were protesting in front of school but finally the case was transferred to CBI after a long campaign and public pressure.
- 4 September 2017: Darbhanga DMCH is one main center for the healthcare of more than 5 Districts Around but the system and conditions are too much poor. MSU tried to highlight the issue on different occasions, but DMCH came into full light when 3 of MSU members were beaten by DMCH doctors and goons[9] for asking some information after the death of a child. Next day, MSU with its full power and number marched to DMCH and After a successful protest, Superintendent of hospital agreed on all terms for investigation and results at live camera.
- 19 August 2017: Ground Report from Flood Area: Good Governance Government in Politics, Student Institutions are in Relief, The whole north Bihar is suffering from floods, hundreds have died, lacs of people became hungry and have become homeless [10] and millions are affected. The road-embankment house is broken, the school-hospital is closed, the disease is spreading, people are waiting for relief from hope. While the state government is busy with the political uproar of its JDU, BJP,RJD, The members of Mithila Student Union[11] (MSU) youths is reaching villages and villages in a difficult time by coordinating and donating the foods[12] and all necessary items. In the Darbhanga-Madhubani-Saharsa-Sitamarhi districts of Bihar.In the month of August, North Bihar was Heavily Effected by Flood. Hundred Died and fled, there were Water every where and there were scarcity of Food items and relief package. Then a campaign was started by MSU is the Thing which was praised and supported from all groups of People. A social Media Campaign with Hashtag #MSUwithU was started to collect Funds Online and Also A ground Bhikshatana was Done for this Purpose. This whole campaign brought a new face of MSU, the dedication, leadership, efforts, coordination and their Praise with Photos were there every where on Social Media and News. More than 200 Active members in 6 Districts were there on Ground divided into 16 Teams to Distribute Relief packages, Medicines, Milks, Clothes and All other necessary items. MSU teams started 6 Base camps where food Items were prepared and packaged and then were divided in different teams for further distribution. they Also started Medical Camps and provided their Active Support to Government officials for this Flood Relief. A Good Amount in Flood-Relief fund was Raised and Also Many Truck food-items and Other necessary items were collected, when the Flood Relief Process got completed, MSU also gave Calculation of All Income and Expenses in a detailed format on Social Platform.
- 7 August 2017: Yajuar is the second most populous village of Bihar. It has three Panchayat, 25 Square KM area and around 70000 population. But this village didn't has electricity.[13] People tried a lot of times but failed, system didn't heard. MSU then Started again A social Media Campaign to Highlight the Issue with hashtag #BIjli2Yajuar. Soon, it became a trending thing in Mithila, every one started writing and talking about this. A Team Of MSU Reached yajuar and Started a Jan-Andolan,[14] Cycle Raily of Children's and A Protest in front of Block Office. This campaign started a new awareness in Yajuar [15] and its 8 Neighbouring villages, Various Memo, Meetings, Mails, Calls and Media Campaign has created pressure on Government officials and a new hope is in there in the Village.
- 1 June 2017: Nancy Jha[16] was a 11 year old Girl of a school teacher in Mahadevmath of Madhubani, she was allegedly kidnapped and Killed. Various accusations, speculations and guesses were there but this suddenly came into the Light when National Social Media In charge of MSU[17] Aditya Jha started a campaign after a family member of Nancy tried to contact him. This campaign Got huge Public Involvement and created enormous pressure on local police and administration. A new SIT team was formed for Investigation and the IO of this case was suspended due to this pressure. Local team and members of MSU reached to Nancy's[18] Village and All teams all Around India gave their active support in protest at Jantar Mantar and social media campaigns. Most Importantly, Somewhere this Campaign gave Mithila-Maithili a new method, involvement, coverage and hope. All people from different places, backgrounds came to support and involved in this campaign, maithili media and local media[19] persons like Lalit Narayan Jha, Bj Bikas and Pankaj Prasoon started covering and taking follow up of the case, soon it became a National Media Thing.
- 6 February 2017: Cycle March (Cycle Yatra) - There were various program and small activities to solve local problems in different blocks of the area but the one thing which again caught a public support and praise was the 'Cycle March'[20] of February. This journey had a purpose to know Mithila Better and make people aware about MSU and its goals. Avinash Bharadwaj and Sagar Navdiya were the constant traveler and all other teams joined and welcomed them when they reached their Local Area. This March(Yatra) helped in getting Links and also helped to form teams in different blocks of these cities.

- 28 May 2016:Movement for Sugar Mill Factory(Chini Mill[22]) -It was the Month of May in 2016 and Mithila was witnessing the Rise of a new Activist Group of yellowed young Senani's. About 100 Active member reached darbhanga from all Over the country and a New Movement to Demand Renovate and Restart the Old Sugar Mills already Present in the Area. Mithila was once the main Producer of finest sugar in the country, this Industry used to provide the Direct and Indirect employment and benefits to About more than Million local people. Agriculture was not a business of loss then as Sugarcane production used to provide a lump some financial support. but Time Passed and Only the Ruins of mills and glorious Economic Zones are left now. Mithila Student Union Started a Campaign on Ground and All public platforms. It was hit and chini mill movement became the first movement in Mithila which gained high Support from Farmers, labourer, students, locals and intellectuals. A 7 day's movement [23] which Included various raili's, Sabhas, Nukkar-Nataks in Local Area of various mills. This movement gained a high support and People involvement Mainly in Raiyyam, Lohath, Pandaul sugar mill corresponding areas. Just before this Movement started, few members of MSU got arrested in a try to present their Demand Memo to the CM Nitish Kumar[24] who was on his Darbhanga Yatra.[25] These arrests[26] helped MSU to get support in public and this movement gained a huge public involvement. Although this movement couldn't succeed as government didn't tried to reopen these Sugar mills but this movement was a new chapter for Mithila-maithili, this embarked and provided a road to the rise of a new non-political Activist group.
- 6 May 2015: March to include Darbhanga, Saharsa, Purnia in smart cities[27] list. Plan was unofficially the First movement of MSU. It was a new team and There were very less number of members but Standing some young Educated kids for the Mithila was a New thing to hear then and the Movement catches the Public Eye. They Organized Public march, Social Media Campaign and submitted Various Memos to all Related Government offices and Ministries. Similarly, Darbhanga Airport was an issue for which MSU started and Raised voice in its Starting Time, Due to their Efforts, Darbhanga Airport Issue came into light of Government, Media and Public Again.
