The 2018 Washington Cougar Attack resulted in the first human death from a cougar attack in the U.S. state of Washington in more than 90 years.[1] [2] The attack happened on 18 May 2018 near North Bend, Washington[3]. The cougar, also called a mountain lion,[4] is the mascot of Washington State University.

Though the attack was in a corner of the United States, it was reported worldwide including, but not limited to the United States, United Kingdom[5], Pakistan[6], Ireland.

The cougar initially attacked then fled.[7] It came back for the fatal attack. [8]

Two cyclists were in a wooded area when a cougar bit the head of one man. The other man pulled the cougar off, allowing the injured man to flee and call emergency services.[9] The other man was later killed and partly eaten by the cougar, which dragged him to its den. The men were in their 30s.[10]
