Timperley is a village situated within the town of Altrincham, which is part of the borough of Trafford in Greater Manchester. Until local government boundary changes in 1974, it was in the county of Cheshire. Although today, most residents still continue to include Cheshire in their address.

Timperley is approximately 7 miles (11 km) south-west of Manchester and is connected to it via the Manchester Metrolink service.

Timperley is the childhood home of The Stone Roses founders Ian Brown and John Squire as well as being the home of bizarre fictional comedian Frank Sidebottom. The comedy writer and actress Caroline Aherne also resides in the village. Timperley also gave its name to a variety of rhubarb known as 'Timperley Early' (a.k.a. 'Baguley Beef').

The name Timperley comes from 'Timber Lea', which means "clearing in a wood".
