Devesh Ranjan is an Indian actor who has won global recognition for his role as ‘Shyam’ in the internationally acclaimed film Vara: A Blessing, directed by Khyentse Norbu. [1][2][3][4]

Early life

Ranjan’s father was the Commissioner of the Board of Revenue, Cuttack, Odisha and his mother a homemaker. Ranjan had a traditional upbringing with education and culture being given equal value.[citation needed]

Ranjan completed his bachelors in accounting from Utkal University. He then went on to do a company secretary course which he subsequently left to pursue

A career in Acting. Along with Acting Ranjan also mastered the classical Indian art form Chhau and learnt to play the flute during his time at drama school.

After attaining his diploma in acting Ranjan worked in plays with renowned directors in New Delhi.

Career

A screen test with Dilip Shanker landed him the opportunity to play the lead in Vara- A blessing.

‘Vara- A blessing‘, became Ranjan’s debut film and went on to receive many international awards including Best Feature Film’ award from Tribeca.

After his fame from ‘Vara’, Ranjan played the male lead in a feature film based on socio- political issues titled Bhor: Dawn) and recently played a supporting role in the most viewed short film ChutneyCite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).[5][6][7]
