Ola Al-Fares (Template:Lang-ar, born November 6, 1985) is a Jordanian lawyer, journalist and television presenter who works at MBC channels. She is currently the second most followed Jordanian woman on Twitter after Queen Rania.[2] Most known for presenting a TV show called MBC in a week by Middle East Broadcasting Center channel.[3] She was also the first Arab woman to climb Burj Khalifa. She won the young TV presenter Arab woman of the year award on December 3, 2015.[4]
Biography
Ola Tahsin Abdul Raouf Al-Fares was born in Amman, Jordan on November 6, 1985 to a well known political family. Her grandfather was Abdul Raouf Al Fares, a member of the Jordanian Parliament from 1954 until his death in 1984. She graduated from high school at the age of 16. She later graduated from law school at Al-Ahliyya Amman University at a young age of 19. She started working as a reporter at the age of 17 and OK British magazine described her as one of the youngest reporters in the Middle East.
After declaring the US president recognized Jerusalem al-Quds as the capital of Israel, she published tweets that Trump had not chosen "the recognition timing" coincidentally. Ola Al-Fares referred to Washington's regional allies who would have supported the decision before it was declared.[5] In December 2017, Fares was banned from her work in MBC. The broadcaster MBC has suspended a TV program hosted by Ola Al-Fares.[6]
Endorsements
Since 2016, she has been working as the brand ambassador for L'Oréal in the Middle East.[7][8] Al Fares has been working as the brand ambassador for the Jordanian utility company Zain Jordan.[9]
Controversy
In 2017, controversy sparked over Al-Fares due to a misunderstanding of intention by her followers. She has repeatedly apologized for what happened after she lined up the six female foreign domestic workers and photographed them, suggesting that they have to work on their "fashion sense. The incident was widely condemned by her own followers and those in the media, insisting she had crossed the line. Some of those who were appalled by her actions even contacted her sponsors such L'Oreal and demanded they retract her contract with them.[10] Al Fares quickly responded to her fans by apologizing for her Snapchat posts, while insisting that she had nothing but good intentions when she shared those photos. And proclaimed that she was a humanitarian and those who know her would vouch that she truly believes in equality regardless of race or ethnicity.[11]
