Kaitou Wario is an upcoming Nintendo DS platforming video game from Nintendo starring Wario.

Nintendo has released very little information, but a handful of conclusions can be drawn from the screenshot shown at the Tokyo Game Show in 2005. Kaitou Wario appears to mix 3D visuals with a 2D perspective, similar to New Super Mario Bros. The top screen will be used for the map and information while the bottom screen is used for gameplay.

Gameplay

The player will move Wario around with either the directional-pad or the A, B, X and Y buttons. All other actions will be controlled by the touch-screen. To advance through levels, the player will be required to take advantage of various different forms of Wario.

Like its predecessor, Wario Land 4, Kaitou Wario will feature health as opposed to invulnerability.

Forms

Currently, four different forms for Wario to transform into have been confirmed:

  • Thief Wario: Faster jumping and running. Attacks directly.
  • Space Wario: Jumps with longer hang time, as if in low-gravity. Attacks with lasers.
  • Graffiti Wario: Can draw doors and crates.
  • Dinosaur Wario: Breaths fire.

Development

The game is being developed by Suzak, who developed both F-Zero: GP Legend and F-Zero Climax for the Game Boy Advance. A recent scan from an EB Games advertisement suggests this game's english title will be Wario the Thief, although that may be EBGames' translation of the title.
