In 2017, league executives toured the southeast and midwest United States for good soccer markets. Throughout their tour, they explored the cities of Lexington, Kentucky, Knoxville, Tennessee, Asheville, North Carolina, Greenville, North Carolina, and Columbia, South Carolina in the southeast[1] and Dayton, Ohio, Toledo, Ohio, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Lansing, Michigan, and Grand Rapids, Michigan in the midwest.[2] The league executives also met with Premier Development clubs Tormenta FC[3] and Des Moines Menace[4] to discuss joining USL D3 for the inaugural season. The cities of Fayetteville, North Carolina and High Point, North Carolina were visited in August 2017.[5]
