Event types
- Monthly WikiWednesday Salons:
A monthly community-focused event where we gather for a mini-unconference at Babycastles, our regular location since late 2014. Event is held with a wider scope of participation and discussion than traditional Wikipedia meetups. Has evolved from bimonthly and other occasional salons in 2007 to current iteration. - Editathons:
A mainstay outreach event of Wikimedia NYC. Typically: one monthly editathon at MoMA, one monthly edtiathon held by AfroCROWD, and usually a couple of additional editathons with other partner institutions each month. - Education outreach: Sometimes includes Wiki Education Foundation a/k/a Wiki Ed

- WikiConference / Wikipedia Day:
New York City has hosted an annual WikiConference. When this started it was called the WikiConference NY and held in summer. After two years it was combined with the concept of Wikipedia Day in the winter and held at other times. In 2014, we launched WikiConference USA in New York City, since travelling to other destinations. Our Wikipedia Day unconference is the largest annual event targeted to the Wikimedia community in New York City. WikiConference 2009: Multimedia, Lighting Talks, Chapters and Outreach, Service in Wikipedia – OTRS, Opening Remarks & Keynote by Jimmy Wales, 2nd Day Opening Remarks & Keynote by Ira Brad Matetsky (User:Newyorkbrad), Wikipedia Day 2010; WikiConference 2010: Keynote by Clay Shirky, Multimedia; Wikipedia Day 2011, Wikipedia Day 2012, Wikipedia Day 2013: WikiConference USA 2014, Wikipedia Day 2015, Wikipedia Day 2016 - Institutional collection releases:
Examples of this type of event are UN, Wikimedia New York deliver open, free world maps on GIS Day (Wikimedia blog) and Wikipedia:Meetup/Guggenheim Museum: Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Selections from the Guggenheim Collection at Guggenheim Museum - Photo competitions:
Support for various iterations of WP:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan (which was the first example of WP:WTTC and paved the way for WP:WLM and others internationally, most recently here in the form of Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/OHNY. - Great American Wiknic:
see Wiknic on Meta We host an annual summertime wiki-picnic, usually alternating between Central Park and Prospect Park; the 2007 event was in some ways the social launch of the Wikimedia NYC movement. Working across the USA in multiple cities to support the Great American Wiknic since 2011, and internationally. Wiknic 2007, 2008, 2011: WikNYC 2007 Multimedia, Wiknic 2011 Multimedia
