Caligula are a British rock band from West London consisting of five members. Reda Maher handles the vocals, Dave Hewitt and James Tenniswood both play Guitar, Paul Arnold plays bass) and Dan Gladding holds the whole thing together with some mean drumming.
They were formed in April 2005 by Maher, Hewitt and Tenniswood, who met at Strode's College of Further Education, Egham in the late-1990's. Arnold - who like Hewitt is from Ashford, Middlesex - was added to the line-up soon afterwards with Gladding, a university friend of Maher, joining later in the year. Maher and Tenniswood hail from Staines.
Tenniswood and Hewitt have been in a number of bands before; both were members of eclectic late-90's rock quartet "Hail to the Enormous Chimp-like Donkey" with Atlanta, Georgia-based musician Ben Coleman while Hewitt was also in stoner rock trio "Mios Dios" with Coleman and Tenniswood who was a member of power pop trio "Dreamcapture". Arnold was in "Ursa", alongside "Rohame" lead Jodie Cox, formerly of "Mios Dios" and "Bullet Union".
Initially looking for a psychedlic sound, Caligula found a natural style that can be described as sleaze or lech-rock, influenced by the Stooges, AC/DC, Led Zepellin, MC5 and Kajagoogoo. They are still decaying sloooowwly...
