  • The novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four, written by George Orwell in 1948, presents a dystopian view of how life might be in the year the protagonist believes to be 1984. An acclaimed movie adaptation of the novel was filmed in and around London from April to June 1984, at the exact locations on the precise dates imagined by the author.
  • In the cartoon The Transformers, the Autobots and Decepticons awaken after 4 million years.
  • The short story, "Transit of Earth" by Arthur C. Clarke takes place in 1984.
  • The band Anti-Flag wrote a song called Welcome to 1984. A line of the song goes, "...what I thought was the new millenium- is 1984..."
