A.Charles Nadar (Former MP of TVM)

Shri. A. Charles, born in November 1930 at Kanjiramkulam earned his BA Degree from the University College, Trivandrum and BL from Govt Law College, Trivandrum. He was employed in the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) and became an Under Secretary there. Charles, who was a government servant, was closely associated with educational and welfare organisations of the South Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India (CSI). Christian College, Kattakada was established (1965), when he was the Secretary of SKD.

Charles, who belonged to a family with no political background, was fielded as the Congress candidate from the Trivandrum constituency in 1984. He had also served as a member of the state Public Service Commission, which he resigned to contest the election in 1984. He won the election with a massive margin of 53438 votes. A.Charles was elected to Lok Sabha from Thiruvananthapuram constituency for successive terms in 1984, 1989, and 1991. He was brought to politics to ensuring the support of the powerful Nadar community. ]].[1]
