Timperley is a settlement near the town of Altrincham, and forms part of the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford in Greater Manchester, England. Historically part of Cheshire, Timperley is approximately 7 miles (11 km) south-west of Manchester. Although most residents of the village still include Cheshire as part of it's postal address today.

Timperley is the childhood home of The Stone Roses founders Ian Brown and John Squire as well as being the home of bizarre fictional comedian Frank Sidebottom. The comedy writer and actress Caroline Aherne also resides in the village. Timperley also gave its name to a variety of rhubarb known as 'Timperley Early' (a.k.a. 'Baguley Beef').

The name Timperley comes from 'Timber Lea', which means "clearing in a wood".

The population of Timperley is approximatley 12,000.[citation needed]

Timperley is a suburban area with most of the houses dating from the 1930's and later with only a few older ones. Up to the early 19th century Timperley was one of the several 'townships' in the large parish of Bowdon. The affairs of the township were run by local farmers who took it in turn to be the officers responsible for the care of the poor, upkeep of the roads and keeping the peace.
