Description

Hikers have to climb the mountain in order to reach it.[2] The mountain itself has an elevation of 1800–2000 ft.[3] The time to hike it takes 3–4 hours. Although said to be located on the summit, it is actually 100 yards below it.[4] The most popular way to reach the rock is rather difficult and is a 6.6 mile round trip.[5] This trail consists of boulders and gains 700 feet in the first half of the hike. The rock itself is thin and more than 7 feet long[6] and it looks like it is about to fall. The entrance is through a parking lot which costs 10 dollars to park. Many tourists are advised to bring plenty of liquids.[7]

Beware of rattlesnakes, there are two popular types of rattlesnakes in these mountains, the red diamond (Crotalus ruber) and the southern pacific rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus helleri).[8] Dogs are welcome on a leash, be sure to read all warning signs located at the entrance of the trail, posted on the left side as you go up the path.

April Fool's Prank

The rock was used as a prank by the Mayor of Poway, California, Steve Vaus in 2017[9]. In a tweet, he wrote that part of the rock had snapped off as well as adding a picture for "proof".[10]
