Meng Wanzhou
Meng Wanzhou (Chinese: 孟晚舟) is a Chinese business executive. She is the chief financial officer and deputy chairwoman of the Chinese telecom giant Huawei, which was founded by her father Ren Zhengfei.
Biography
Meng holds a master's degree from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology and joined Huawei in 1993. She held positions including head of international accounting, CFO of Huawei Hong Kong, and head of auditing.[1] As of December 2018, she serves as CFO and deputy chairwoman of Huawei.[2]
In 2017, Forbes ranked Meng at No. 8 in its list of Outstanding Businesswomen of China, while Huawei chairwoman Sun Yafang was ranked second.[3]
On 5 December 2018, while transferring planes at the Vancouver International Airport, Meng was arrested by Canadian authorities at the request of the United States, which accuses her of violating US sanctions against Iran. She faces extradition to the US.[4][2] The Chinese embassy in Canada issued a statement strongly condemning her arrest, calling it a violation of Meng's human rights.[1]
