Simpsonwave was a YouTube phenomenon made popular by the user Lucien Hughes.[1][2][3][4]

Format

It mainly consists of videos with scenes from the American animated television series The Simpsons set to various vaporwave songs. Clips are often put together out of context and edited with VHS-esque distortion effects and surreal visuals, giving them a "hallucinatory and transportive" feel.[5]

Coverage

Simpsonwave became enough a part of internet culture that it was reported on in 2016 by mainstream publications like Pitchfork[6], The Verge[7].

In 2018, The AV Club identified another creator continuing in Hughes style, a YouTuber operating under the name Dankmus.[8]
