Template:SpongeBob episode "Just One Bite" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode where SpongeBob tries to make Squidward eat a Krabby Patty, after learning he's never had one; it proves to be harder than he thought. The episode includes Squidward Tentacles, SpongeBob SquarePants, Krusty Krab Customers, Patrick Star, and a doctor. It includes no songs.

Plot

Template:Spoiler When SpongeBob finds out that Squidward has never tried a Krabby Patty, he starts begging for him to try it until he does. Squidward tries a tiny bite of the patty and instantly falls in love with it, although he denies it to SpongeBob and puts the patty under a grave. This disappoints SpongeBob.

Squidward gets the Krabby Patty out from underneath the grave and then says "Still alive!" He then eats it, and says "So delicious!" He tries to eat another patty and fails twice. The first time is when Squidward asks for a Triple Krabby Supreme and SpongeBob eats it. The second time is when Squidward tries to eat a patty from the garbage can and SpongeBob cremates it. After the second time, Squidward cries.

That night, Squidward craves more Krabby Patties. He has a dream that a giant Krabby Patty enters his house. In the dream, he marries the Krabby Patty. Upon waking up from the dream, Squidward decides that he must have more Krabby Patties.

So Squidward goes to the Krusty Krab and breaks in. While entering, he discovers a burglar alarm — a bucket filled with gasoline. This type of alarm is also present on the door to the kitchen. While these alarms are set off, he still makes it to a vault filled with Krabby Patties, of which he has a giant feast. However Nickelodeon occasionally broadcasts the edited version which was edited because of the September 11, 2001 attacks, which doesn't show the above scene description.

During this feast, SpongeBob arrives at the Krusty Krab to "count the sesame seeds" and opens the vault to see Squidward in there holding a Krabby Patty behind his back. SpongeBob knows what Squidward is in there for, and tells them that he can't eat as many as he did. Squidward asks "What's gonna happen? Am I gonna blow up?" SpongeBob replies "No, worse, it'll go right to your thighs..." "My thighs?" Squidward asks, and looks down at his thighs, which now appear to be filled with Krabby Patties. SpongeBob says "...and then you'll blow up!"

Squidward's thighs explode and he is sent to the hospital. The show is ended with a doctor saying "Yeah... I remember my first Krabby Patty."

Quotes

  • Squidward: TRY one of those radioactive sludgeballs you call food?!? Next I suppose you'll want me to go square dancing with Patrick!
SpongeBob: (to Patrick in a cowboy suit.) Sorry, Patrick...
    (Patrick moans and sulks away.)
  • Squidward: GOOD FOR YOU?!? That thing is a heart-attack on a bun!
SpongeBob: No Squidward, I meant... good for your soul!
(SpongeBob turns into an angel, with heavenly music playing and a cloud background)
Squidward: Oh, PUH-LEEZE!! I have no soul.
(The background turns to a shot of a fictional scene of Hell, with evil laughing.)

  • SpongeBob: Sorry, Squidward. It's just so funny! You know what they say...
(The kitchen becomes filled with the customers.)
Customers: THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE KRABBY PATTIES HAVE NEVER TASTED ONE!
Squidward: That's me. Never had one, never will.
  • (the deleted scene in question):
Squidward: There it is, unguarded! All I have to do is...wait. It's too easy. There must be some form of...security? This is our burglar alarm? A bucket of water? Ha-ha-ha! (opens the door thus spilling the bucket over) That was too easy! (sniffs the liquid) Hey, this isn't water. This is...gas! (A robot arm drops a lit match into the gas, resulting in a huge explosion. Squidward enters the kitchen setting off another burglar alarm. Then walks over to the Patty Vault)
    (edited version):
Squidward: There it is! (cuts to interior of Krusty Krab zooming in through window to Patty Vault; Squidward approaches it as he did in the original version)

Trivia/Goofs

  • When Squidward said he never had a Krabby Patty before, he was only exaggerating because he doesn't like his job. In the episode, "Your Shoe's Untied" he was stuffed with them.
  • SpongeBob says that a patty should always be eaten fresh, but later in the episode, Squidward is eating premade Krabby Patties from the Patty Vault. The Patty Vault is shown in only one other episode, the Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy Motion Picture.
  • This is yet another episode in which the Krusty Krab is seen, but Mr. Krabs is not featured.
  • The part where SpongeBob attempts to make Squidward try a Krabby Patty in different locations is similar to the popular children's book, Green Eggs and Ham where Sam attempts to make the nameless character try Green Eggs and Ham in different locations.
  • Squidward calls a Krabby Patty "a heart attack on a bun" which is a reference to the fat and cholesterol level that hamburger usually contains, which could lead to a heart attack.
  • SpongeBob calls the Krabby Patty an absolute good which is a similar reference to the list of Jews written down said to be life and also an absolute good by Itzhak Stern in Schindler's List.
  • When Squidward ran to the Krusty Krab, he ran the opposite way that it was usually located in. Normally, SpongeBob ran to the left when departing for the Krusty Krab, but Squidward did not go that way. (According to the Bikini Bottom Map in The Essential Guide to SpongeBob, the Krusty Krab is a few blocks behind SpongeBob's house, giving him a choice to go either way)
  • When this episode was originaly aired, it depicted Squidward getting into the Krusty Krab, but setting of the "security alarm". the security was a pale of gasoline that was jumped on Squidward as he opened the door. A robotic hand dropped a match near squidward and... KABOOM!. This was later cut out for uknown reasons.

Scene Removal

  • The scene shown in the edited episode just shows Squidward saying "There it is!" with his face at the door followed by a zoom-in at the Patty Vault with Squidward already there with no explanation.
  • This episode was edited after the September 11, 2001 attacks, due to a scene depicting the Krusty Krab secruity system in which a bucket of gasoline is lit aflame by a robotic hand with a match thus burning the Krusty Krab, although a reason was never officially announced by Nickelodeon. Some believe that a more likely reason it was cut, is simply that it showed children that gasoline can be ignited by a match. Another belief is, it was thought to feature a form of sneaky terrorism. The version included on the "Tales From the Deep" and "The Complete Third Season" DVD compilations is the edited version, but VideoNow versions still have this scene intact. Originally, the uncut version was shown on television for the first few airings. Today, however, on Nickelodeon, only the edited version is shown and on YTV, the uncut episode is still aired. You can watch the deleted scene here.
