Anno 1701, also marketed as 1701 A.D., is a real-time strategy game developed by Germany-based Sunflowers Interactive Entertainment Software company. It revolves around building and maintaining an 18th century colony in the "New World". It is the sequel to the games Anno 1503 and Anno 1602
Overview
Anno 1701, like the other two Anno games, is a game based mainly on the economics of the settlement created by the player. The more skilled a player is at maintaining a balanced economy the more succesful their settlemt will be.
Gameplay
As with other Anno games, the player starts as an unamed country which has to colonize and expand in the island world of Anno. Whilst the player expands other computer controlled rivals are expanding and strengtehning. As the player progresses through the game, players have acces to lodge activities and troops which allow them to invade and ultimatly defeat other players.
Lodge Activities
Lodge activities are accessed at the beggining of the game, although only the spy is able to be used. All the other lodge activities are researched through the game at either a school or university.

Like all of the Anno games your settlement progresses through different inhabitant levels.
Pioneers are the first people to arrive to the island world and have pretty basic needs such as Championship (A community) and Food.
Settlers are the first inhabitants to make the island feel like home. On top of the basic needs the settlers require Religion and Cloth.
Citizens like to embellish their settlement with ornaments, their needs are also more exotic than those of the settlers or pioneers, Citizens are the first to want Alcohol they require Education and Tobacco Products in addition to this.
Merchants are pleasure loving and indulge themselves they request far fetched items such as Chocolates and Lamp oil, they also require Entertainment from a local theater.
Aristocrats are the highest inhabitants that a city can have and by far are the most luxourious. Aristocrats want Colonial Goods, Power which is provided in the form of the senate, Perfume and fine Jewellry.
Foreign Cultures
There are five different foreign cultures with which the player can trade. The five cultures are Asians, Aztecs, Indians, Iroquois and Pirates. Once the player has fraternised with one of the culures the player cab buy colonial goods. There are five different types of colonial goods; Furs, Talismans, Jade and Ivory. Pirates can offer the all four types of colonial goods, although fraternising with them decreases you the player's popularity significantly.

Anno 1701
