Note

Attacking other editors could lead to an effort to get you banned from the ref desks. If you have an issue with a user, take it to their own talk page... as noted in the ref desk talk page recently. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots11:11, 27 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

RD Captchas

Captchas won't work on the Reference Desk as you suggested. It should be obvious now that Wikipedia's Captcha system doesn't work. New accounts are created in an automated fashion, automating the Captcha, and then random edits are made to make the account a fully usable account. Previously, dozens of socks held in reserve were used just to demonstrate that they exist. This is obviously being done on purpose. I wonder how long it will take for users to realize who is behind it. If it is who I think it is, I don't expect it to last forever. It is just a proof of concept for a tool to attack Wikipedia. 216.59.42.36 (talk) 13:55, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

speakers humming

Such humming is usually caused by Ground loops. See the discussion at that article. 173.228.123.166 (talk) 00:28, 6 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback.--Doroletho (talk) 20:11, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Reference desk post moved

Hi, I moved your post at the Science reference desk to the Computing reference desk, as that's more appropriate. It can now be found at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Computing § Battery eliminator for smartphones? You will likely get more people familiar with the topic there. The computing desk is for electronics in general, not just personal computers, as you can see on the refdesk home page. No offense meant; I'm just trying to be helpful. Have a good day! --47.146.63.87 (talk) 05:50, 5 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen your response to the accusation of socking at ANI. I'd like you to elaborate on what entitles you to have multiple accounts. You allude to privacy concerns. Therefore, I suggest you e-mail me and explain those concerns. Also, if there are accounts for which you lost the passwords, please name them. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:26, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
For me the issue was settle per [1] --Doroletho (talk) 13:09, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's not settled as far as I'm concerned. If you don't e-mail me with a clear explanation, your accounts risk being blocked.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:12, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to drag me into some sockpuppet investigation, just do it. I'm not aware of having broken any wiki-rule, if I did, I'm willing to look at the evidence of what it is and change my behavior.--Doroletho (talk) 18:04, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As a CheckUser, I've already investigated, and I see no legitimate need for you to have multiple accounts. That's why I asked you to e-mail me. If you don't wish to, then I'll block all the accounts except this one.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:21, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fine with that. If you believe it's a huge issue, then, go on and block all the others. I assume that if I'm on vacation and create a 'burner' account for a couple of days that won't be an issue though. Doroletho (talk) 19:26, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Why is it necessary to create an account when you're on vacation?--Bbb23 (talk) 20:22, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If you are using a shared computer (which I do like 1/4 of the time) anyone would be using the same IP as me. Doroletho (talk) 20:32, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Kharon

I assume that this, this or something connected with them relate to the incident to which Kharon referred at Wikipedia talk:Reference desk. You will have seen by now that I have gone to bat for you at AN/I and the Reference desk Talk page, primarily on principle; I hope that won't prove to have been a mistake. The attacks at the links are only just short of ad hominem attacks, and are certainly uncivil. General Ization Talk 21:19, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
