Arun Alagappan (born 19 July 1976, Chennai) is a member of the Murugappa family and is the Executive Director of Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Company based in Chennai, India since August 19, 2017. He has earlier served as the President of TI Cycles Of India Limited from August 2013 until September 28, 2017.
Early Life
Arun Alagappan did his schooling at the Lawrence School in Lovedale, India. He is a Graduate in Commerce from the University of Madras, holds Masters in Business Administration from Cardiff Business School. He is a certified international course designer for show jumping.
Family
Arun Alagappan is a fifth-generation member of the Murugappa family. The Murugappa family is an Indian Nagarathar (Nattukottai Chettiar) family that owns and manages the Murugappa Group, a conglomerate with interests in bicycles, sugar, abrasives, fertilizers, financial services, and manufacturing.
Career
Arun Alagappan started his career as Credit Manager in GE Capital. He then moved to a number of companies under the Murugappa Group, taking up various leadership roles. He joined Parryware in June 1999 as Head HR and later moved to Tube products of India as Head of International Business. He joined TI Cycles in August 2006 and had a stint of over 11 Years at the company. While he was in TI Cycles he brought several initiatives to brand cycling as a fun lifestyle activity. This includes introducing new products and even a chain of themed restaurants called Ciclo Café (pronounced as Chee-klo) in multiple locations including Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.
