John Nelson Arnold

John Nelson Arnold (1834–1909) was an American artist known for his portraits.[1][2][3]

He was born on June 4th, 1834 in Masonville, Windham County, Connecticut.[1]

His portraits of governors are located in the Rhode Island State House and others are in the Brown University Portrait Collection.[2][4] He published Art and Artists in Rhode Island in 1905. Arnold was also a member of the Providence Art Club from 1880 to 1909.[5]

He married Clara L. Maxfield in 1908. At the time, he was 73 and she was 27.[2] He died on May 31st, 1909 and was buried in Providence, Rhode Island.[3]
