Dinky Doodle

Dinky Doodle was a cartoon character produced by Bray Productions in 1916, and is considered to be one of the first cartoon characters ever made.

Appearance

Dinky Doodle is a squat schoolboy with a standard schoolboy cap, striped shirt and dark shorts. His appearance is based on the stereotype for schoolboys in this era, and his name derives from what he is; small (the slang "Dinky" is used to describe small people or objects) and a drawing ("Doodle" being a slang umbrella-term for drawings).

History

Though Dinky Doodle appeared in only a handful of shorts between 1916 and 1917, his character did feature in a series of childrens' books in later years. The character was also referenced in the 1988 film, Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
